That's cool! Unfortunently, as most people already know that there is no OE projector Z3 headlight from BMW. Just to let you guys know I have access the Z3 headlamp unit mold (dissassembled) and have been working with a headlight company on a projector unit, particularly Z3 and another BMW model There also been a serious demand for angel eyes by many Z3 owners and hopefully that should be resolved pretty soon. I'll keep yall posted if interested.

Hey Jerry, no thieving my thread!

Your efforts to the community are most certainly appreciated, but this is something that I am working with www.umnitza.com on, and it will be developed shortly. Its been in the works for quite a long time, and very soon it will become a reality for all. Umnitza has some of the best customer service of any internet-based lighting company, and their quality products can be found on show and enthusiast cars all over.
DDE may also be an option, as umnitza has already said that it is doable for the M/Z3 headlights. There is a bigger demand for projectors at current time, so they will likely be released first.

Please follow that thread on bimmerforums and email Matt if you are interested.
thanks,
Bryon

Thieving your thread!? It was rather a kind "heads-up" that Lava Lighting has had something similar going on for a while. That's the beauty-side of the Internet Forums.

I will wish you nothing but the BEST in your development work for the Z3 headlights.

We've the process figured out, it's just going to take some time to make sure it's up to the task, it's quite doable

Updates!
For a complete update, click the original link!

Jim Powell is currently getting a handle on the details of this project, and has verified that this will work and will happen.

Quoted from Jim Powell:
Update: June 9, 2003 (Post #67)

It's gonna work

I took apart and modified a light from a '96 Z3. I don't know how many variations there are but I need to look at them all. People, if you have a busted headlight in your posession, I'll pay shipping to get it for dissection.

I have to go by BMW tomorrow and see what all of the part numbers are. I also need to ensure that lights are symmetrical at the reflector level. This is mucho importante.

Ok so what does it look like?

Specifics:

The glass on the low beam side goes away and is replaced by a CNC machined bezel. This is where Neil, the graphic artist, comes into the picture.
The stock levelling system is retained and works with the projectors
Everything fits into the original footprint of the headlight. No interference issues at all.

I'm waiting for the graphic designer to stop by, hopefully tonight, if he can get away from another project. I need him to make the design in 3 dimensional graphics so the mechanical engineers can code it for the mills. If I can get him to do a full on drawing of the design in a headlight, I'll post pictures of it for review.

We are still about 30 days away from a prototype but IT IS GOING TO WORK!!!

And it won't be that much money. Actually, this was surprisingly easy.

As noted from the specifics, the design will be an oem quality and a worthy upgrade. I can hardly wait!

Well, we now have a rough ide of what the prototype will look like. Click the original link, and on page 4, you can find a picture of the actual projector and surround photoshopped into an M/Z3 headlight.

Expect a working prototype in the next couple weeks!
If you have any feedback or opions, please post it here or over on bimmerfourms.
