The M coupe is an amazing car. It is for the hardcore enthusiast, and lacks the practicality most people require from a car. It handles like a go cart, is quick as hell, and is an overall blast to drive. Sure it has its faults, but the benefits highly outweigh the costs

i love the M coupe.... we have 1 for sale..... apparently not too many people like it as much as most of us enthusiasts do. i've driven M coupes before.... the front end lifts... and the rear dumps.... its a great car.... but i woulda not been here today if it wasn't for that traction control...... the back end is on its toes....

M coupe is a fantastic car. Most fun to drive BMW, hands down. And the '01 is an absolute beast.

Coupe Rulez!!

I love the M-Coupe. It took a while to grow on me, but now, if I had no need for a back seat, I would be lusting after one!!

Actually, I am lusting after one anyway...

Ben, it's my father's. I drove it last weekend when I was home. Absolutely fantastic car. Pulls extremely hard on the highway. Doesn't feel as torquey as the old car because of the longer final drive ratio. Seems to ride much smoother than the old roadster.

Some Improvements include:
- Headliner for the roof
- Outside temp gauge instead of voltmeter
- A whole lot more power

I can only imagine the potential of this motor in the new M coupe. If/when someone releases a chip to bump up the redline to 8k, I imagine the car should run high 12s.

Putting a 3.15 differential in the M coupe/roadster is a travesty. Sure, it only has 5 speeds, and the 3.15 allows the car to hit 155mph, but it is ridiculous to put such a tame rear end into a car with so much potential. Also, it is clear that BMW is trying to downplay the horsepower of the coupe and roadster by lowering the redline, and sticking a very unofficial and round "315" number for the M coupe and roadster. Although the number may be accurate for the current redline, the horsepower should be at M3 levels with an 8000rpm redline.

Oh, and nice stable you got there

That dyno sheet is definitely messed up. It has to do with the OBD-II software not giving full power after 6000-something rpm. With only 250-260 RWHP, the M3 or M coupe would both be rated at less than their stated numbers. I saw a dyno sheet for an e46 m3 that had a certain fuse removed so the dyno would be accurate, and there was something like 290 RWHP.

WOW

Wow, damn I got so many replies, it look me a while to look through them . Looks like the board is back up to speed! Anyways I think the M coupe is a great buy as a used car. Since it is not very popular to the unenthusiast, the prices are on the lower side. I have seen 98' with 20-35k miles sell for $25k. Also, I think this car can be quite practical. Although the back cargo place looks small, it can probably hold a lot. I definately want one if I have the funds later, even though my friends are beating on it saying that its ugly. I think it looks great. BTW Ben FR does your coupe have Dinan chip and exhaust. Your car looks great!

Where did you find a 98 for $25k with low miles? Seems way too low.
