| got an m coupe...need some answers i just got a 2002 m coupe yesterday....need some help, first of all sometimes the gears espically 3rd is notchy, other times it is smooth as silk, it makes quick shifting near impossible, so i have refrained from it, the car has 2000miles on it when i bought it, does it still need time to smoothen out. next what pedals do you guys reccomend, heel toe downshifting is basically impossible with the stock pedals. finally the suspension....i neeeeeeeeeeed it to be stiffer, there is alot of squat when i get on the gas, even in 5th gear crusing, i know sway bars will help stiffen it in corners but im looking for springs/shocks to make the car have NO body lean...thank you edit....i am coming from a car with alot more bottom end, and it seems like i have to rev the car if i want power....is there a problem if i am always shifting at 4500-5000 in daily driving when traffic permits....but i go all out when there is noone around...i love the hp of this car....i went from a 3500lb car with about 340hp to this and i am loving every moment of driving it....you get about 2500rpm's and it just screams....even in the wrong gear!!! my mod list go's as follows.....momoo knob short shifter, if it will remove all the notch in my shifts and make it smoother, evosport underdrive pulleys, springs/shocks, sway bars, remove the resonator, new pedals...thats about all i can think of now....more will follow im sure. tell me what companys you guys reccomend and which to stay away from thanks alot

| Well first off, a short shifter is going to make it even notchier To smooth it out you want to get a heavy knob like a Whalen, which is made out of stainless steel and polished to a mirror finish. It has a snap-locking mechanism for attachment and is very solid and heavy. $130 from leatherz.com.Shifting high up is no problem, your S54 engine is a fairly high-revving engine. To stiffen the ride you might want to try H&R coilovers, or a spring/shock set. Eibach and Koni have the right parts. Sways are always a good idea, I believe Racing Dynamics makes a front and rear set for your application. I find my pedals in my '97 Z3 to be well suited for heel and toeing, if you need them to be even closer you can get Racing Dynamics pedal covers. AC Schnitzer makes nice looking aluminum pedals but they are the same size as stock. I believe the RD set has an extension on the side of the accelerator pedal for easier heel/toeing. About the notchy shift, your synchros may be worn... when it slips in smoothly it may be because you are at the right revs anyway. Is it notchy on upshifts only or downshifts? BTW, the M/Z3 shifter is somewhat notchy to start with, as it is quite short from the factory. Mine can be a little notchy, you need to be deliberate with the knob otherwise you may get caught on the gates. stjobs |

| im afraid if i try to quickly shift i will mess up the tranny...sometimes i throw it in to a taller gear and it dosent want to go, btw this is the first manual car i have owed but i have driven many manual cars before...just not very hard.
