Anyone insterested in a Z3 shift "kit"?

Ughh I feel bad for this, it feels like the E30 forum is becoming flooeded with group buys and such.

After helping my friend do the install, I think it's a great and cheap alternative to a UUC kit, which in my opinion, is over-priced and too notchy, but maybe some of you like it?

Anyways, the Z3 gives smooth crisp short shifts, but no where near as notchy as a UUC lever.

I put together a little "kit" with my parts shop (exclusively BMW and MB)

It contains a Z3 1.9 lever, 4 replacement washers, and 2 circlips.

Total for the kit is $56 ~ then add $4 - $5 for s/h to your area.

If you are interested post here, and I will post the info for you.

- Jon

Oh, I forgot, the "kit" also includes the infamous bitch clip, a shifter carrier bushing, and a new nylon cup.

If you guys have questions, post them here, please don't call the shop asking questions

Otherwise...

This is the information on getting a shift kit :

The parts place is called BMA Autoparts, in Glendale, California.

Phone - (818) 240 - 1223
Website - www.bmaautoparts.com
Email - BMAPARTS@earthlink.net

*Important*

Regardless of how you contact the shop, please ask to talk to Patrick, or address the email to Patrick, he is the one I have made arrangements with. And tell him that Jonathan has sent you, otherwise there will be confusion.

When you contacted him, tell him you want the Z3 shift kit, and he will send the parts to you after you take care of the money etc...

The shop is very reputable, so please act accordingly, Patrick is nice enough to get the parts for me. So if things become slow, dont get frustrated.

Does the Z3 kit have the same throw redution as the UUC one. I think it is like 40% throw reduction (I could be wrong). If it is about the same then I am very, very interested. Are the Z3 and UUC SSK about the same? Thanks!

Jonathan, you need to get these guys to include the 'bow'. It is important to change that peice out. 9 times out of 10, that is going to fail eventually. The 1.9 fits the ///M, where as it rubs on the driveshaft on non ///M cars.

Spectre, thanks, I was about to post that for the M3 guys. But I don't think the Z3 1.9 lever rubs in the non-M cars. The Z3 isn't as dramatic as the UUC kit is.

I'll get the part number for the M3 guys so when they order it, they can tell BMA to order that also.

*Important* The M3 bow as of right now is not included in the above listed price. I will call BMA monday to make the appropriate changes. Then post the part number.

The Z3 will reduce throw by about 21%. The shift levers are similar but not the same. UUC has all the delrin bushings and all that stuff, and the Z3 lever includes the basic parts to do a shifter linkage rebuild.

The shifting is not quite the same, the Z3 is very smooth shifting, whereas the UUC kit has some notchiness and increased shifting effort.

I hope that answered your questions.

Edit :

Here is the part number for the M3 bow : 25-11-2-225-369 7
- M3 bar (bow)

So you M3 guys, if/when you order, make sure to tell Patrick that you want to order this as well, there will be an additional charge for this on top of the above quoted $56.

Hey is this an easy install? From what i've read it looks like it.
Do i have to lower the tranny to do this ?
Is there some kind of write up that explains this or something, just in case....

I'll be replacing this weekend the Output Shaft Seal, the tranny is spilling oil like crazy, the upper part of the drive shaft is all sokaed in oil and sometimes you can smell the oil burning as it falls into the exhaust piping...this is really really bad, i have to make short trips and drive slow, if i take it to 40mph the shift lever or something starts to make this rattling noise, i hope the tranny will hold on till the weekend. Since the car will be lifted i want to make the Z3 shifter upgrade.

Thanks
