S54 M Coupe or 993/996 Porsche 911?

How come 315bhp for the S54? I thought they were 343bhp - or atleast are over here in the UK? Are they tuned differently for the US market? (or am I wrong?!!) cheers.

Come on man, you know we always get the short end of the stick. You guys over in Europe have 286HP and 321HP for the M3's, I'm sure your M Roadsters and M Coupes are the same. The restrictions are more here therefore we don't get as much HP as you guys.

They are tuned down over here, thus less power/HP.

The US M coupes/roadsters only have 315hp as opposed to the E46 M3's 333hp because of exhaust system restrictions. They are not detuned. The E46 M3 has only 3 or 4 fewer hp due to more restrictive emissions equipment, the 10hp difference in quoted figures is due to a different unit of horsepower measurement.

Although, if you want to use it as a commute car then get the 996, it's more comfortable and more forgiven. As far as the 1999 996, the early production cars had some issues so check out the TSB. Also, if you drive it hard on the track, you better put on the 3rd radiator.

As far as the 993, if you can splurge on 993 TT, then that's the car, if not get C4S or C2S. The C4S comes with the Big Red brake kit.

The bottom line is, test drive both cars (993 & 996).
