Need Help ASAP: Z3 stalls while driving

My brother was driving today, doing 50 car started losing RPM and stalled, had to restart. It's doing it intermidently. He could be driving or just neutral and it does it. Car is manual.

What can this be?

It's a 98 Z3 with 47K miles.

Any help would be appreciated.

After it stalls, how does the car act when he starts it again?

It would either be ok and he could drive again, or after a little bit starts stalling again.

Best thing to do would be to have it checked out at a bimmer dealer

Do any lights come on? Also what engine does he have.? Does it just all of a sudden stall or does it start to act up then stall? You need to describe whats happeneding a little better.
