Z3 sub install

Alright, here's the deal. I have a 97 Z3 with the stock stereo head unit, trunk mounted Alpine/BMW 6-CD changer, and the stock speaker setup with the dealer installed subwoofer that takes up the back part of the center console. The bass response is horrible. I want powerful, clean bass that STAYS clean to a pretty high volume. What are my options are far as doing this on a budget? I'm also working with a small trunk here and I want to leave at least half of it available, so maybe 1 10" sub or maybe 1 8" would do it if it's fed enough power? I'm new at this, so any help is appreciated... I also have a limited budget

Ive never seen a z3 trunk/back seat, if you can get me detail pics I can give you some ideas....

Putting a sub in the trunk is a bad idea. The trunk is completely sealed from the cabin by a metal bulk head. You would have to cut through this bulk head to get bass transfer, which would theoretically weaken your car.

Here's some options:
1. Cut out some of bulk head. Very permanent.
2. BMW sells a Sunfire Sub and amp. This replaces the stock crappy sub and amp. Doesnt work for all Z3s, but most.
3. Cram a small JL Audio sub in the stock sub enclore. Power it by a small amp in the trunk.

Hey Manny, looks like another custom trunk drop-top install huh?

Listen to Manny, he knows his shit! He's gonna help me hook up my JL 10" sub that I have in the trunk of my 318iC - I'm thinking about cutting through or punching out that ski pass-thru and doing something that will allow the bass to pass into the cabin...
Also thinking about taking out the spare and putting my amp in there, or if there's enough room just leave the spare AND mount the amp in there somehow

Ive got a boxed removeable 12inch alpine sub in the boot and it does the job i dont think you want to be cutting any holes through to the boot it will weaken the car
