I fried the engine on my M Coupe...HELP!!! I'm in big trouble. I was trying to downshift from 5th to 4th but i put it in 2nd by mistake. For a splitsecond, the car redlined almost all the way to max. I quickly took it out of gear but it was too late. The engine was idling extremely rough and the 'check engine soon' light came on. The car still ran ok but i didn't want to risk any further damage. The next day i had it towed to the dealership. They checked it out and they called me the next day. Here's what they said: "54 minutes before the car was turned off, it was redlined to 8100 rpm. The damage will not be covered under warranty because of that. The tests show damage to cylinder #1 we can't give you an exact estimate until we open up the engine, but your best case scenario is $1,800." Now of course i did not admit to redlining or any type of driver error, i just listened to what he had to say. Of course i can't afford to pay that much money so i had it towed from the dealership to a BMW specialist here in town.
I asked if we could somehow erase the error codes that recorded the history so that my warranty would cover the damage. I would then take it to a different dealership and hopefully they wouldn't look up the car's history in the central database. Anyways, this guy made some calls to the head foreman at the his old dealership back in New York to see if this was possible. They told him no, the only way to erase driver error codes like that would be to send it (the ecu i think) back to BMW. I'm not sure about this though... There must be some way to erase these codes and find a way out of this mess. Would this line of thinking even work or am i wasting my time?
Someone told me about the Shark Injector, would that work? I come to you guys for help...any ideas or advice?
