The BMW Z1 is a two-seat soft top roadster. It uses the engine and transmission from the E30 325 mounted in a specially designed base frame or chassis, which is made from galvanised steel. The sports body, which is made from various types of composite resin panels, is fixed onto the base frame. The front suspension is re-worked 325 components, with a wider track. The rear suspension is the specially designed 'Z axle'. The most distinctive features of the body are the electrically powered doors, which in the open position drop down into the side sills, this creating the ultimate 'open car' when the soft top is lowered underneath its' flat cover.

yes, a very cool car.
i had never heard of it, until i saw one in paris a few years ago.
they never made it to the US, probably because of safety issues (doors).
it had a 170hp motor, i think.

There are infact atleast 3 that are/were in the USA I have seen 2 of them in person.

From what I understand under the new Rules for Show/Collectible cars it would not be overly difficut to bring one over... I would love to try and do so eventually.

i don't know if i'd want to drive a car with drop down doors.

I have seen a few here in Italy, and red is the best color for it. The door thing is why it never made it to the USA. Although I have seen a green one in Miami years ago.

anyone fancy a Hamann Z1 (which is turbo'd by hamann)?

or a AC Schnitzer Z1?

or a Kellener's Tuning Z1?

kellener's offers a 2 stage tuning program
stage 1 - 286hp and with stage 2 running 330hp

Yeah I had seen the green one in Miami as well, was always on Ocean drive and unfortunately was kinda beat up... There was a red one around South Fla... as well
