| Buying a Z3 soon...need some help... I just had some questions about z3's b/w '97 and '01: 1) Can someone tell me of any reliability issues i might have if i buy one? Because in my mind BMW = quality and reliability and i wanna make sure my instinct is correct... 2) Can i drive this car hard? (Stupid question bc if you drive anything hard it'll decrease its life) 3) Is it hard to maintain? 4) Any other info on it...personal opinions...anything to convince me to either steer clear or convinve me that this is 100% the car for me...I'm also looking at the Audi TT with a 1.8t and manual... as well as an MB SLK...ok, now talk to me...(This is my first post on DTM Power and HUGE teckademics fan) |

| i have a '98 Z3 which ive had for 4 years now. the most major problem ive had with it was a small clicking noise when it hit a bump. turned out to be a loose heat sheild. tightened it, problem solved. other than that, its been very reliable. very fun car, ive pushed it plenty. its the 2.8 liter version, so its not the fastest out there, but still very fun for "agressive street driving". id track it, but bmwcca mandates roll hoops for convertibles. handles top notch, though no complaints here.

| ditto the rear sheetmetal & spot weld failure. Don't commit to buy a z3 until you have lifted the carpet out of the trunk and removed the tool tray to perform a close inspection of the health of the seams and spot welds.

| Just for future reference. The rubber seals are known to go bad on Z cars. Gummi Plfedge is a staple in the Z community as a good rubber conditioner. It is also good for any car lol.

| I know that a 19X8.5 in the front is a little bit of a tight fit. You will rub when you cut the wheel hard and go down a incline. **Just a side note you can buy 8.5 but DO NOT LOWER YOUR CAR. Secondly in the back you can go up to a 11.5 with no in a M Roadster/ Coupe for sure. But a 10.5 in just a roadster might be close |
