Thanks for the info and advice. Question: Does anyone have any exact figures on the structural rigidity of the M Roadster and M Coupe? I'd to know more or less just how much weaker the M Roadster is in terms of torsional rigidity.

Hmmm.... The M coupe is the most structurally rigid car BMW has made to date. It has all the reinforcements of the roadster, but also have a fixed roof.

The difference is like 300 percent or something. But I doubt you can tell that much. The Roadster sufferers from cowl shake, and has rubber dampers bolted to it to try and fix this problem. The coupe doesnt need anything.

Hey guys/gals, I just got a '99 M Coupe today:-) I am so happy. After getting rid of my M Roadster a couple months ago and looking and going nuts not having a car, I have checked out pretty much everything out there, and still no car really interested me. Until just recently:-) Wow this car feels so much better than the M Roadster, the rigidity, no cowl flex, just plain awesome....and that's out of the box stock! I have always heard a lot of good stories about these cars, but they are so rare and very hard to find. The one that I got was the only one in a 250 mile radius, talk about rare not to mention I only saw a few of these with my own eyes. I just can't wait when the mod 'bug' infects me.........I think it's too late!! Time for some crazy loud Eisenmann race exhaust and H&R coilovers:-)

Thanks man, yea I'll take some pics once I get the chance, hoping tomorrow I'll give the car a nice Zymol-job. As much as I loved my previous M Roadster, these two machines are world's apart as far as handling. Today I finally took it out on a semi-highway, got it up to like 80 with ease and finesse, then took an off-ramp at about 55mph with ease....that felt so great, didn't know the car could respond so well. All in all the handling on the M Coupe is the closest thing to a 911 Carrera

What color did you get? You have 2-tone interior or single? Sunroof?

I got my Dakar Yellow 2000 M Coupe last month, so I know the feeling!

That's badass b22md.......wow I wish I had all those toys in mine. How is the handling with the Bilstein shocks/H&R springs? I can assume you're running in the 12's on the 1/4. What's the mileage on your car?

thanks. the handling is great on track-like surfaces, however, on the roads it is VERY stiff and a speedbump at 2mph will break your neck with the jarring shock. have not been to the 1/4 track yet because of some install issues, i'm good to go for next season now though. mileage is 35k. take care

they are two completely different engines so the prices will reflect that. the S52 (1999-2000) will be much cheaper than the rarer S54(2001-02) version. prices vary alot on these cars due to enthusiasts knowing what they have and car dealerships not knowing what they have. i paid $28k for mine at Carmax. a few weeks before, the same car, one year older and with 5000 more miles was going for $36k at the BMW dealer. if you want one of these cars dont jump on the first one you see....do your research, decide on your engine type and other features and start hunting. it took me 2 years and many test drives before i got mine....it was worth every second in the end
