| i havnt visited the forums in awhile... when i first got my car i hated it. honestly i didnt know what an m coupe was. i was more interested in the m3. but i got a sweet deal at auction. and from then on its grown on me. i love this car! as for your questions... 1) its a bimmer. you can expect the maintenance to be a little more because some parts are hard to come by. there have been occassions where parts were backordered or delayed. i want to replace my rear sub frame (due to my reckless driving) to get a new one its about 1200 + service + new tires which are 260 a pop. so....im just saving up for the expenses. 2) what can i say...i love it.! 3) i drive daily with my car to school. the ride is alright. im not going to say its the most luxurious. however...for more than an hour or being stuck in california traffic, it gets uncomfortable. id say about a 6.. 4) my boyfriend is husky, he doesnt complain much. hope that helps you...

| Just to throw in my 2 cents.... Its an awesome car. How much so? Well it just depends. Who owns them? It tends to be pretty hard core BMW guys. JimC, Stygar, etc all have coupes. They can get any BMW they want, and they choose a coupe. That says something. Its probably the fastest BMW out there. Its faster than the M3 and M5 out of the box. S54M coupe that is. Change the diff to a 3.73 and there is no competition. Its easy to drive as long as you dont mind the DSC killing the spark all the time. You have to be careful because the car can easily get away from you. I have spun the car with DSC on. Didnt think you could do that. ![]() But if you havent driven an S54, dont do it, or the S52 will never do. Mpire

| The change was in 2000. When they stopped making the car for about 8 months. Then they came out with the S54 in 2001. Its a brave new world. Mpire

| Same engine as the M3. Just different air box and different software. Headers are the same, everything else is the same. So yeah, its rated at 315. But we all know it will do 340-360 with a few mods... Mpire

| Hey guys, I registered on this site for a while now but I never really had any questions or anything so guess I'd start now. The sooner the better. I don't and never have owned a BMW (I've considered myself to be a MB kind of guy) but my friend has a 99' ///M Roadster and I love it. Everytime I get in the car he thinks he's god or something. lol. Dinan exhaust, intake and Shark Injector reprogrammed ECU. I really want to get a 01'-02' Roadster because of the S54 engine. I mean, 315hp in a car that light and small. Can't go wrong right? Now, here's where the dilemma lies: I never really liked softtops because of the noise but ever since I drove in his car it's awesome. I mean, just cruising on the ride back home after school or work, you know, tired and not giving a shit because it's the end of a long day, top down and all. But I've heard that the M Coupe has a better interior. I've never seen the interior so can anyone point out the differences between the M Coupe and M Roadster? Hopefully I'll be able to buy this car by the end of the summer, beginning of fall and do some mods to it. Thanks in advance and kudos. -Chris Last edited by NYNamJa : 05-14-2004 at 04:31 PM. |

| The M roadster is great, but has some flaws that I'm sure you'll have no trouble accepting - unless you've driven the M coupe. The roadster, when first released in 96 or 95, was kind of a hurried response to the mercedes SLK. Sure it was and still is better than the SLK, but the structure of the roadtster lacks integrity and rigidity. Lots of chassis flex, which makes it harder to drive fast and control at the limit is not really there. Granted, that limit is high. That flex is easy to live with unless you frequently track your car. There are ways to take care of it, and eliminate flex, or you could go with what BMW did: They built the M coupe! The coupe is the same engine and suspension without the flex limiting the handling. It sounds like not much, but the coupe is a whole new animal. To the best of my knowledge, it's the stiffest car BMW ever built, whereas the M roadster (or Z) was the floppiest of the modern ones. Now, though it's still darty (but that comes from the great suspension), it is much more stable, and you'll be able to reach the astonishingly high limits of the Z3M much easier than in the softtop. If you did, however, reach the limits of even the coupe, you deserve a standing ovation. Not that it's a handful, but rather because those limits, and the limits of the engine, are just so freaking high.
