Recall!!! Mini's and X5's

"BMW has announced a worldwide recall of 56,000 X5s and 38,700 Minis to fix transmission and brake problems it said had yet to cause any accidents or injuries.
In Australia, 488 X5s and 313 Mini Coopers are involved in the recall.

A BMW spokesperson said the Mini has a potential problem with a cable connecting the gearshift to the gearbox, which could result in the car getting stuck in one gear.

The X5 has a problem with the brake pedal shaft which could result in a sudden loosening of the pedal and loss of brake power at low speeds or while parking, the spokesperson said."

Yeah im sure its just a precautionary measure just to avoid any possible lawsuits in case the problem is common with all the Mini's and X5s.

Avoid the problems that Ford had with their Explorer and the tyre thingy.

I'd still get a Cooper S hehe

whats so funny?

Mr Ozziebob - what's so funny mate?

Are you attempting to tell everyone that an ML has less problems than an X5?

ML recalls:

1) NHTSA Campaign ID: 01V290000

Year:
2002 Make:
Mercedes-Benz Model:

Defect Summary:
The left front upper control arm may not meet the specified strength requirements.
Consequence Summary:
The control arm could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:
Dealers will replace the left front upper control arm.

2) "the ML320 stumbled out of the gate in terms of initial quality. The first-year J.D. Power & Associates survey numbers had owners complaining about a range of problems, including but not limited to faulty keyless remote devices. " (car cost canada.com)

3) Xenon lights that do not operate properly may be addressed by switching or replacing Xenon bulbs or replacing the Xenon control module (TSB DDAF82_10-U-2009B, June ‘00);

4) the anti-theft alarm (ATA) may sound for no apparent reason due to a software error in the security/trip computer tow sensor (1999110002, Dec., ‘99);

5) contamination of the mass airflow sensor (traced to leaks in the air filter system) may lead to engines that miss, shake or die when idling (DDAF07_07-U-6700AV, Sept. ‘99);

6)a low range indicator that comes on in cold weather (with low range not activated) may require the replacement of the transfer case control module (DDAF28_19-U-2430A, Aug. ‘99);

7)if the starter does not crank, there may be a need to replace the engine control module (DDAF07_61-U-6000A, Aug. 99);

8)insufficient clearance inside the door may cause problems with the power window activation switch (T-SI-MBNA-72.29/19, May ‘99);

9)a missing or damaged sealing ring may lead to oil leaking on the left side of the engine (DDAF01_40-U-4000AU, Jan. ‘99);

10)engines that cut out may need a replacement engine control module (DDAF07_08-U-6100A, Jan. ‘99);

11)faulty throttle valve actuators may cause engines to surge or run unevenly at idle (DDAF30_20-U-9900AG, Jan. ‘99);

12)a faulty fuel sender unit may cause the fuel gauge to read incorrectly (T-SI-MBNA-47.20/05, Jan. ‘99);

13)engine oil leaks may be addressed by replacing the cylinder head gasket (DDAF01_30-U-4043DU, Feb. ‘98);

14)a knocking noise from the steering column may be addressed by proper lubrication (T-SI-46_04, No. ‘97);

15) 1998-99: Transport Canada recall no. 1999232 refers to The plastic cover encasing the seat belt latching mechanism. It may be loose due to an incomplete staking process during manufacturing. (alldata)

16) 2000: No. 2001005 refers to vehicles not in compliance with regulations for occupant restraint systems in a frontal impact. (alldata)

Now its my turn
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

Good point....
Mr OzzieBob - were you laughing at the proportion of cars or the fact that the X5 had a recall?

Both

The ML is considered quite a joke in the MB family, I know this! BUT this is only true of the 1997 to 2000 models! The 2001 ML's are actually very good cars!
I have had a few small problems with the ML, but none of the ones you listed (touch wood)
Some of these problems are caused by abuse though! Especially the problem with starting the engine. If the driver has too many things on his/her key, it damages the ignition barrell (as it can on ANY car) and this can be VERY expensive to repair.
Unfortunately, the ML's are made in America, where the quality standards of Germany don't seem to be followed!
I was only fooling around man, I realise that I shouldn't have posted the laughter, and I apologise!
