4.6is X5 with M badge in Tysons area!!

Has anyone else seen this thing?
I have yet to see an SUV ("SAV") that looks as incredible as this vehicle.

Beautiful alpine white exterior (which is weird because only 3 colors are available for the 4.6, none of which is white.) and perfect tinted windows. It also had a crazy body kit, and what looked to be aftermarket exhaust.

Picture it, 4.6is, alpine white, black windows..body kit.
WILD.. and that perfect M badge on the back?

That day I also saw 3 M3s (1 e46) and a silver F-360. What the heck?

SO anyhow, I have heard about the X5 LeMans concept thing with the McLaren V12, which this was certainly NOT, but an M X5? I read stuff about an "M X5" but I figured it was the same BS as dumb people who call the M roadster an MZ3 and the M coupe an "M Z3 Hatchback"

Seriously, I was not imagining this M badge.

Tell me what you all think.

Probably an X5 4.4i or 3.0i with a 4.6is Bodykit and an ///M Badge.

There won't ever be an MX5. They made one but it had 700 hp and was way too fast to put into production and it would have been expensive as hell

I remember in an article that I read about the X5 LM, which ran ridiculous times around Nurburgring and a 194mph top speed, that the reason there was no X5 with the M5 5.0L was because of the motor's cost. But, the man in charge of the M division and the X5 LM had an X5 with an M5 motor and 6 speed, his everyday driver.

you probably are referring to the X5 LM.......

but the 4.6is IS the M version of the X5, but Mazda already owns the name MX5 so they didn't badge it as such

that was strictly made to test the chassis limits on the X5. there was NEVER any intention to put that into production.

Mazda wasn't a major consideration in the name game. BMW named the X5 4.6is that because it's not deserving of an M badge because it didn't have a "high-revving" engine. Considering BMW's current 4.4l V8 puts out 326 hp (was 282 but underrated), they just stroked it out a bit. This is no M car.

Well judging on how much the buy spent on the body kit he probably could have had it re-painted.

It's probably a 4.4i though, I guess.

Still, SaBiH, you saw it? Wild huh?

http://www.bmwworld.com/models/x5_lemans.htm

"Shown (privately) at the 2000 Geneva Auto Show, the X5 Le Mans experimental vehicle is an X5 with a twist; a powerful twist.

The X5 Le Mans is powered by the V12 engine from the Le Mans winner. This means that the engine of the X5 Le Mans has a power plant with 700 bhp (514 kW) and torque of 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) at 5000 rpm. The X5 Le Mans accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is 278 km/h (173 mph).

The idea behind the X5 Le Mans experimental vehicle is to demonstrate the X5's real absolute limits in practice. As a side effect, the work of the BMW engineers is a compelling showpiece whose powerful looks reflect its impressive inner values."

Not like that's what I saw, but still..

You mean that the 4.4L V8 In our 740i has 326 HP? I think your getting confused the the E38's V12, that had 326 HP.

There's an "M X5" in the philly area. I think it was a 4.4, silver, body kit, exhaust, tint...it looked pretty sweet. the ///M badge made me angry though.

BMW said that the M badge is reserved only for cars, now the x5 is an SAV/SUV, so they don't want it to have the M badge...simple as that...
but yeah...the 4.6 is the performance version of the X5.
