| thoughts about raising X5 and ML so how come nobody raises these SUVs? i can understand why not the X5, its not very capable offroad, but the ML is. the ML is very capable, comparable to grand cherokee and hummer in certain respects. so why doesn't anyone put on a moderate lift with some oversized tires? yes i know most people buy em for grocerry getting and space, but there has to be one person out there besides me who'd raise a german SUV. |

| Nobody probably raises them for the reasons you stated. I dont know about very capable off-road or on anything more than rough dirt roads for that matter. Most people buy these vehicles for space and getting groceries like you said. Their main selling point is not their off-road ability as it is with other vehicles like jeeps and hummers. The ML comparable to the grand cherokee, maybe The ML comparable to the hummer, definitely not, two very different vehicles. Im sure there are people out there who share the same views as you but the majority of people who buy MLs and X5s are parents or older people who will never see off-roading or people trying to pimp it. Thus you see more people put 20" chromies on instead of lifting them and putting big tires on. I personally would never buy a suv unless it was capable off-road, i feel it defeats the purpose of owning one when it would be just as good as a minivan off-road.

| The way their suspension layouts are dont lend themselves very well to lift kits, especially the X5 as its front driveshaft goes THRU the oilpan. I'm not 100% sure, but also UNIBODY construction Sport Utes are always a bit trickier to lift... I used to have the old body on frame pathfinder on a 2 inch lift running 33 inchers back in the day...THAT was a beast.

yeah, there aren't any lift kits out there for these two trucks, i don't think they could even sell 5 of them. however, people who buy MLs and X5's aren't poor. i would think some rich man would have the desire to improve his offroading capability with a nice lift. the reason i post this is because im in the market for buying a car. ryan (scansp7) and i have been trying to find an e36 m3 for me, but to no avail, found none under the right circumstances. so, im tired of waiting, and already sold my car so i need to get the ball rolling. plus i just took a weekend trip to vegas in my friends truck, and am sold on it; offroading is something i definitely wanna do, so i think the ML is the truck for me. i was just getting your opinions on lifting this beast. ![]() |

| Lifting an ML while not impossible (coz everything's possible if you throw enough money at it), would prove to be a HERCULEAN task. And off roading wise...your results would not be that much better. If you really want off road capability, look into a Jeep or a Land Rover. Hummers while very capable, are freakin' huge on a lot of trails. You could build any of these up to climb mountains...but I just dont think you're going to be able to do it with an ML or an X5
