| X5, is it really capable of off-roading? I was wondering if the x5 is as capable as people are led to believe. I am under the inpression that an x5 can perform as well as a Range rover or Land Rover (discovery) Since it was owned by BMW for a while. I am considering getting one in the next 2 years and was wondering if anyone has taken it off roading and was suprised/dissapointed. Thanks alot |

| The car would be good for some trail running, buuuut thats about it. I mean the damn thing has high performance rubber and not a lot of ground clearance, what is to be expected. But I guess to answer your question, it can be taken "off-road," but it is not anywhere near what a land rover is as far as off-road ability goes.

| I think it would have the same offroad ability as a rally car(i.e. dirt roads, etc) but with more ground clearence. In no way is it capable of rock crawling and serious trail running such as the rubicon trail. |

The X5 was built with the following vision statement: 1) on-road driving feel and composure 2) anyone have some 19" wheels? 3) oh, it might need to go off-road a little bit |

And the Range Rover is so not even the most capable SUV.. the new Grand Cherokee (WJ) with quadra-drive and the 4.7 V8 will walk all over the Range, as would a MB Galandewagen.. |

| I know the the X5 doesnt not have high clearance, especially not adjustable like the RR. But I was expecting more from the X5. I guess that's why its called an SAV. Thanks for the feddback. |

Hummer, too...missing cars left and right here...okay, so the Rovers aren't the best of the best. |
