| tired of my 3 series want an x5 Tired of my 3 series. Want an x5 4.6is. I see way to many e46's on the road and I want a car to take snowboarding next year. Don't get me wrong my 330ci is fun to drive, buti rarely get the oppurtunity to push the car and i see way too many of them on the road. I rarely see a 4.4 x5 and have only seen a couple of 4.6's all i see are 3.0's. You guys think i should trade in my car next year and get an x5. Can anyone with an x5 4.4 or 4.6 tell me if they are fun to drive? An x5 with 22's and a nice system ![]() ![]() |

| i own a x5 4.4i and it torque but ... iv never driven a 330ci so i cant say if it more fun that 330ci...but its more fun to drive than any other suv iv ever driven...its acualy more fun to drive an x5 4.4 than a ml55 =) just goto any bmw dealer and make a time to test drive one...btw they love to wana flip on turn over 50mph...or real sharp turn on 30mph...the step tronik is soo bad man all all of them its has a HUGE delay of about 500rpm so u switch and 500rpm later it acualy switches....like 1 or 2 sec delay and the automatic S mode is fun cause it revs the engine up to 6000rpm on 1str gear if u floor the shit out of it .... and x5 break easy =*( i herd the x5 4.6 sounds like a m5 when its at high revs =) get that =) with a x5lm kit

| i agree please get the m3 or m5 instead of the x5. I've driven the 4.4 and it is like a fountain of power when you step on it and handles more like a car than suv. So 4.6 would just be redicules. anyways x5 would be my choice for a truck but I'd rather have the m3 or m5. I believe you also have problem with there being to may of your twins on the road and I really don't think getting an x5 is going to solve it. To tell you the truth, everyone and their mamas have an x5 around my area. IMO, you'll be way better off with an m3 or m5. I believe with the budget of the 4.6 you might be able to look into lotus possibly or maybe, very slim chance, a 911. |

| Thanks for your opinion guys. The main reasons for me wanting an x5 is for snowboarding and i see a lot less of them on the road then e46's. I'm starting to see a lot of e46 m3's now. They are really nice cars, but i need something i can put snowboards on. I don't like how i drive in my 330ci either. It will get me killed one day. I drive way too reckless and can't help it. The car just temps me. Hate to see myself in an m3 or m5. Anyways, I used to drive a Land Cruiser and miss the ride height, the storage capability and my safe driving. With an x5 I would be able to go fast, but i wouldn't take turns like I do in my 330ci or weave in and out of traffic. I really like the look of the x5 also. A black x5 with a ski rack, on 22 inch HRE's and a tight system. This has to be my next BMW. |

| only reason I'd go for the X5 is if you need the room or if your traction control isn't cutting it in the winter... Having a sport coupe and switching to an SUV will not make you happy.

![]() 2. I personally wouldn't buy an X5 unless I fully intended to use it as only an SUV. It may be more "carlike" than the competition, but in the end, its still an SUV. 3. I have driven an X5... not at the limits, or anywhere near. My observations were from the 1999 BMW Ultimate Driving Experience. I watched as a test driver drove the X5 at its limits. It was my observation that it was very stable, and very carlike in its at-the-limit-handling. BMW was confident enough to not equip the X5 with "outriggers" (they did for the ML430 and Lexus 'ute). From an engineering standpoint, BMW went through a lot of trouble to lower the center of gravity. The front axles go through the oil sump if I recall, and the engine was placed relatively low. I'm not doubting you in any way. I'm just saying that the X5 has reasonibly safe handling for an SUV. That said, I could totally be wrong. Like I said, I haven't driven one myself at the limits... I'm just offering my humble oppinion. I'm not a vehicle dynamicist, but I'd like to think I have atleast a little knowledge in the field. PM me if you care to discuss the details... | If you can learn how to drive normal in your coupe I think youd be much better off that with the X5. X5's are a waste of dough....then again I think any SUV is a waste of dough..they all suck!(my opinion) A lot of people near me drive X5's, other trucks and what not...and Im like "whatd you buy that thing for" They tell me that its good in the snow. So I say "Listen this is NY, lemme ask you something, what do you buy a car for? The 1 percent of the year that it snows, or the the rest of the year!!?" And the fact of the matter is the 4 wheel drive on the truck ISNT much better in the snow. Itll get you a better start but thats it. We got more people getting into more accidents with 4 wheel drive trucks than cars. People think because they have 4 wheel drive theyre superior in the snow and drive faster and better than everyone else until they flip over or skid into a tree for going too fast...the morons! The only real solution to the snow....SNOW TIRES!!! Sorry...got a little side tracked...just venting. ![]()

I usually take mine on the onramp to the highway (those coverleaf type of onramps) comming home from school at 45mph, there's a bit of bodyroll, but I never felt the thing was about to flip I've taken tight 90 degree intersection turns at around 30ish, and it can handle those without alot of problems.

| Thanks guys, but i just miss the ride height of SUV's and i can't put 5 snowboards on my 330ci. If i got an x5 i would tune the suspension and put HRE's on it. That would make it drive a little better. I'm not positive i am going to get one yet. Maybe by the time i am ready to actually go to the dealer and trade my car in, I won't want one. I have heard that the x5 4.6 is one of the best handling SUV's. |
