Buying an X5

Hi, im in the market of buying an X5 diesel and would like to know more about the car as im looking at an ML270 as a second option.

If there is any thing that i should be aware of on maintenance, weak points, usual faults and other things pls post here.

Weak point:
CV boots, front outers tend to go and if not addressed then the CV Joints/front 1/2 shafts will need to be replaced.

The actual boots are cheap, the labor to replace them is expensive however you can do it yourself.

I can't really think of anything else right now, if I do I will post.

Didn't the earlier (pre-facelift) models have notorious problems with window regulators burning out?

I think that's true of any BMW or German car for that matter built in the last 10 years.

Good call, window regulators are an chronic issue in the E39s and X5s... I have mastered changing em by now.
