California ticket

hi all
well i drive a 2000 mits eclipse gt umm i registered to get some advice on how to fight my california unsafe lane change ticket. I'm a minor and was wondering if i could have a trial by written declaration as described on ticketassassin.com. I am 17 and already have one point on my license so i cant get another one or my parents will make me pay for my own insurance and i have a job (bought my car) but i dont think i cant afford 3500 a year in insurance. Anyway i got off the freeway and turned at a stop light and i used my blinker to change lanes after i was thru the intersection and started to move over and the asshole cop got off the freeway goin about 40 (i was goin 20) and had to slow down not to hit me but i had already began to move over when i saw him. so he pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for an unsafe lane change. i didn't even know there was such a thing when you are going 20 mph. im fighting it for sure but was wondering what the best way to go about it was. any help is appreciated

great reply that helped a lot. i can pay the ticket just fine but i cant pay the 500 that it will make my insuance go up and im not a "ricer" im a kid in high school who doesn't have the money to buy a bmw and i bought the nicest car i could with the money i had. but thanks again for all your help

you can go to the court date that they will assign to you and if the cop doesn't show you get off your ticket. If he does show plead not guilty and tell the judge you want a trial by jury(do not accept any offer he gives you until you get a trial by jury) he may just drop the charges and let you off or he will set up a trial and the cop will mostlikely not show cuz your the only offender there. You can then either tell your story to the jury, be sincere and try to win them over by telling them the circumstances and you will probably win.
And if you really want to piss them off keep asking for continuances until the cop doesn't show to one. If you ask for a continuance he may let you off or set up another trial and thats when you ask for another continuance until they wont want to deal with it anymore.

By the way dress very nice!!! No one will give you a break if you dress like a punk kid. hope this helped a little.

I doubt you will win if you put up a fight. Just try to solve it with getting the best options availible for yourself. Next time, try not to make an "unsafe lane change."

That is where I disagree...It sounds to me like he didn't make an unsafe lane change. It sounds like the pig saw he was a kid and wanted to bust his balls and got him for anything he could.
I know this because it happened to me constantly, which is why I hate PIGS. They would pull me over for just going to work, school, etc. not breaking any laws and I'd still end up with a bogus ticket.
I don't know if you did anything wrong or not, correct me if im wrong, but it sounds like you didn't break any law and weren't driving wrecklessly. Just a Pig who needed his dick extension for the day.
