| 528i = me very :( love the car and can't get over it.... Just wish it didnt do so many Kms..... I have a problem with it and its putting me in the worst mood ever when i drive it ![]() If anybody here can help me would be great. First off, im pretty sure the auto is slipping so i might need to top up transmission fluid but because ive herd its got "long life transmission fluid" im getting confused if i should or should not... But thats not whats really pissing me off because at the moment its not that big of a problem, but what is pissing me off is that sometimes when i start the car it hesitates to start then when it starts up the take of in the car is absoloutly rediculosly shocking like its a 2cylinder car has absoloutly no guts........ have no idea what it could be. im thinking maybe could somehow be 1.) because of the transmission fluid or 2.) maybe sparkplugs are fucked or 3.) maybe it could be becasue of the petrol i put in (im not really sure what petrol is good for it) but i put in the normal unleaded usually and at times i put in the more expensive one (obviously because its more expensive its better, i think ) and becasue theres been a couple occasions where ive driven the car on empty and maybe it sucked up all the shit from the tank or something like that... if anybody could help me i would really appreciate it, any advice, help or anything... My dad has a friend who at the moment is overseas but when he used to live in Germany he used to work for BMW and so we are waiting for him to come back and for him to fix it (hopefully he should know) but yeah ... So dissapointed, makes the beauty and luxtury of driving a 5 series SHIT (feels bad to even write that lol) |

| Might be more beneficial for you if you post this in the mechanical forum. Seeing as you're from region: europe, posting in here is pretty pointless. We can't direct you to any locally recommended mechanics if you live on the opposite side of the world. |

| Oh right... maybe he thought it meant the region of car manufacturer.... I don't know. Edit: What do you mean by its gutless, like a 2 cylinder? Does it struggle to get any rpm's? Or does it absolutely scream when you plant the foot but it doesn't get anywhere? The auto shouldn't be slipping due to low fluid. I would think this would cause more wear on the gearbox, and less smooth gear shifts, but it shouldn't slip simply because the fluid is a bit low. If you think its the spark plugs, why not remove then and take a look? Clean them and put them back in, it doesn't cost you anything. It doesn't sound like this is the problem though. Neither does the fuel - unless its been tuned to run on higher octane fuel, there should be no problems whatsoever running it on standard unleaded (its not a diesel is it?). | ummmmm yeah it sort of struggles to get RPM's.. its pissing me off so much arghh lol after work today im just going to insure my brothers 3 series under my name buy a new battery for it and start driving that untill my dads mechanic gets back to Australia ![]() |

| Then it does not sound like it's a problem with the transmission. Did you try removing the spark plugs and inspecting them? Might also be something to do with the oxygen sensor or MAF sensor. Try some of these: YouTube - Auto Repair: Mass Air Flow Sensors - Testing and Replacing (1 of 2) YouTube - Auto Repair: Mass Air Flow Sensors - Testing and Replacing (2 of 2) You should be able to find the MAF on the intake just after your air filter box. Also look up common engine problems for the 5 series. I know that for the e36 there are a couple of rather common problems like the dirty idle control valve, which often explain why the car isn't running well. | SOOOO, i finally got my car back... and im very happy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() although now im very broke ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hehetoo many things were wrong with it but now its running better then it ever did before. the problem with the car not giving enough acceleration was that 2 of the camshaft sensors were stuffed. so my mechanic changed that, he found out that the 'air flow meter' i think thats what its called was stuffed is well, so changed that, new fuel filter, AND he went to change the spark plugs and could not belive what he saw.... the spark plugs were completely FUCKED, he didnt even know how the car could start when i was driving it. fixed all the oil leaks (there were so many oil leaks it wasnt funny) he fixed most of them but then came to a BIG PROBLEM so he called me and dad down to come and have a look at the problem and ask us if it was worth doing as it would cost big $$$$, so now all the major oil leaks are fixed and all the other things were changed with original BMW parts, the problem? there were another 2 little oil leaks which he showed us and was immposible to fix without him taking the engine out and taking it all apart to fix, so my dad gave him the OK. hehe. so now the car never ran so smoothley and much quicker is well, could not belive the super job he did on it. he past on all the recipts for the parts, he can somehow get all brand new BMW and MERCEDES parts way more cheaper then half price so we saved about $800-$1000 in parts there were some original BMW part would of cost us $800 he got it for $317, so he gave us a big savings. all the parts ended up costing $1250 which was good compared to the normal price we woulod of payed, and as his a family friend we got the labour cheap is well, so we did OK in that part is well.. so im happy but broke at the same time hehe. anywayz just letting you all know and updated, just in case something like that happens to one of your cars remeber to look at the camshaft sensors and air flow meter hehe |
