first time bimmer owner

heyz people....
ummm im a 1st time 5 series owner on thursday im getting the 528i 2000 model...
just wanting to get an opinion on these things from you BMW guru's

Im getting it of my dad (cheap) as he bought a merc clk320 1999 model. and just wondering on if i should put on a m5 style front bumber bar or not?
what are you guys thinking?
dad says "NO" as it is a BMW and nothing on bimmers need to be changed and just leave it all original.
I love the way the car looks now but i love the m5 front bumber so much more.
i know its a BMW and i should leave it original but im really not sure on what to do.....

and would love to know what use are all thinking?

ohh yeah and will post up pics as soon as i can once the car is handed over to me which should be this Thursday

thanks in advance

Listen up to your dad. It's not an M5 so don't pretend it is.

How much and how collectible today would a BMW 507 be worth if the owner decided in their infinite wisdom to fit a turbo or centrifugal blower kit, big brakes and a mega stereo....

Those out there who prefer some aftermarket customization, go right ahead if you want bottom dollar for your car in 10 years. What you think makes your car stand out today and cool will make it blend in with every other junky used car in a decade or two.

An original car in top shape always stands out when it's as it left the factory. Even an untrained eye recognizes it's originality, and having all the original parts adds to the impression of "showroom condition."

Start swapping things out and you wind up with a car half made in China or Inglewood, CA. Leave it alone and you still have a great German car. Remember, collectors (and most people) want a new car as BMW made it; not one that you've personalized for yourself any more than they want your graffiti on their fence.

yeppp thats exacly what i mean....

i drove it around last night just to the carwash (dad isnt letting me untill i get it insured) lol but dudes the car is immac. it drives like a beauty soooo smooth and nice

thanks for your help ANILE8 & davodinkum, its made me think a bit more now.
it does look better with the front bumper but hey at the end of the day its a bimmer and its a beautiful car how it is, if i add on front bumper then its not an original 528i and saves me saving up money for the bumper hehe
in my opinion it looks good as it is and yeahhhh.
thanks again....
(great to see that the people in the "victoria" section in these forums, people are actually helping out and giving advice whereas in the "M5 & 5 series" section of the forums no one even bothers replying. i posted the exact same post there befor i posted it in this "victoria" section and no one wanted to reply)

at the end of the day, it's your car and what you feel more comfortable with.

in my opinion both bars look fine so either way, your still driving a sexy car

Agreed...

But IMO, the M5 has a sexy bumper... It's like the 3 series, everyone wants an M3 kit because they look so good, I would love to have an M3 look on my 325i 4dr, so I do plan to get one...

But it's your car, so it's up to you, but I'd say get the M5 kit
