Blue is:
A F1 has a ELECTRONIC gear change. not automatic. there is a huge difference. It is not the shift that relates to the name, it is the gearbox and its internals.

I like 7 series in auto because they are good for driving around town, because we all know how stop start traffic is.....
All i am trying to say is that auomatic gearboxes, in roadcars that people modify to make faster is silly, because of the fact that there is a reason why racing cars have manual gearboxes and not automatic.
Why spend all this money on performace gear to make your car faster when it is auto????
Its like when people spend thousands of dollars on a few extra hp, when they have Sound sytems and big leather seats that weigh a ton!. Once again i compare with at racing cars where weight is one of the most important things.

I feel really bad that i might have upset people and i dont like arguing on things like this, i really enjoy this place as we all love BMW and class cars..... Not shitty commodores or jap crap (but fords r good 2).

M3R - First of all, how much is the ransom for to get my thread back...J/K

Secondly, I don't think anyone is talking about high performance cars at all....Just simple GB about gear shifts. I suppose if I owned and automatic I would be no different and would want to make it look as nice as possible.

No offence, but that "thing" (Gear knob pictured below) ... would have to be the ugliest "thing" i've ever seen...

hahaha you guys are arguing over shift knobs

to get this thing back on track, has anyone looked at the Z3 gearknob?

i think it looks quite nice, exactly the same as standard but the exterior is chrome plated instead of leather.

and it only goes for $145 at the stealer!

In reply to that, its great 2 c such educated members of the DTM Power website......
The logic must b if you have a car...instantly u kno everything.
Beema you dont even know what smg is.....
Bemma and Blue is, maybe think about what your saying before you say it. Just because i dont have a car, doesnt mean i dont know what i am talking about. Does this mean if i go and buy a $200 escort, does that mean i know everything there is to know????
You dont even have an argument to back yourself up....
I apologise to DCR62 for hyjacking his post again, but im not going to be called a fcuking wanker and stand by and take crap.

Well M3R.....im not tryin to start anything here....this is just the way i see it. You began with a very generalised statement of "auto guys suck".....which is pretty much dissin a larg number of people on this forum (including me)....so you cant expect to give it, for everyone to just "stand by and take crap"....if you wanna give it out, then learn to accept it!!

And also, even if you know alot about cars.....it doesnt mean much unless you can drive (EDIT - hehehe, not that i can talk, since ive only been driving for a week tomorrow....but i dont shoot my mouth of at others )

But thats just my opinion....and i could be wrong

Daniel

All I wan't to know is, if I get a good price for some of the above knobs (no pun intended), is anyone up for it.

Crombo, are you able to get others or is this just what you have. Would rather give my money to someone here if it is competitive

M3R - I would have thought you would be used to Automatics anyway. Arn't all buses and taxi's auto.

You do realise, that alot of Drag cars use auto's right??
You do realise that most people with big block 8's tend to opt for auto's correct...

In alot of respects an auto is only a faction slower then the manual, mind you i wouldn't have an auto. But to compare an every day stock vehicle to one that has some work or thought into it's gear box is abit bias.

Not a fan of auto's but there is obviously a place for them on and off the track/stip.

SMG.. And your talking about a Sequential gear box...
Well there is a difference between a manual and a sequential.
comparing what is in an F1 car worth 10's of millions and with research in the 100's of millions, it's going to be a tiny bit different to an M3.

The fact that they work the same doesn't mean they are the same. A gearbox that can handle 400Hp and a gearbox that can handle 1000Hp is going to be a tad bit different, not to mention that the F1 box is pre-programed to go up and down gears automatically, and to change gears at certain rev ranges. You can't fully compare that to a $130,000 road car.

But at the end of the day WTF are we talking about auto boxes for, the thread was about Gear Knobs, nothing more...

so if you dont have a car, obviesly u dont drive??? what kind of statment is that??

I bet i could name heaps of 16-17 year old kids who have way better car control, just through karting, they dont have cars, they cant drive on the road...... Look at all the world karting champions and then look who made it 2 formula one......

the whole having a car and driving on the road is a poor argument.
I can handle taking shit, its just funny when people have no idea and just call me a fcuking wanker... at least i have evidence to back myself up, not just hurling abuse.
