Spec Buyers Beware ....

I have a buddy that purchased a spec stage 3 clutch kit that he got installed at the Audi dealer ship he works for by there head tech (new country audi in Greenwich ct) . The clutch is rated for 450 TQ at the flywheel . He is running a stage 3 apr kit with no front mount and was dyno'd at 293 tq and 275 hp to the flywheel . He put less then 3000 miles on it before it blew .. This kid does not drive the car hard at all does not track it and does not drag race . He called spec to see how they can resolve the situation and they told him that they would give him a call back in a bit . NO call after 3 hours he calls back they say the same thing ..

He waits till the next day and calls back to get a deal of him paying $700 for a new clutch and a ltw flywheel package with 2 day delivery . This was on a tuesday and should have gotten the clutch on friday the latest so he makes a appointment with Audi to have the work done on saturday . The clutch does not come in the time Spec said it would and he is without the car for the best case scenario 1 more week and no call from spec to top it all off . A week later (NOT 2 DAYS) he gets the package and makes another saturday appointment to get the car worked on . He is there during the time of install but there was a problem of the pivot bearing not being the right one and the ltw flywheel not fitting . He calls back that monday and asks to speak to dave the sales person who sold him the kit and they told him that he was busy and would need to call back later . He calls back 1 hour later and they tell him that Dave is not going to be in and to call tomorrow . He asks to speak to a tech and they put him on to Dan there head tech . He explains the story to Dan and Dan tells him to "PUT THE FLYWHEEL IN THE OVEN AT 400 DEG FOR 2 MINUTES AND THEN INSTALL" as Dan says he has to do that to most of there ltw flywheels as it would expand the aluminum . My friend calls me and asks if I ever heard of such a thing and asked me for help . The only help I can give is to tell everyone else about this situation and to go out and buy him some cookie dough mix as he might as well make some cookies if he is going to be using the oven . Spec told him that they do not warranty clutches nor any of there products unless there is visible proof that damage or malfunction was do to there products craftsmanship and not negligence in install .
