320 STW

Hi all there, as one of the mechanics of the car in the video, I can give you some figures.
It's a E36 320 STW factory racer , racing in a private team. The engine is a M42 2liter a cil. doing about 290HP. The fact it's so fast lies mainly in the 6-speed sequential gearbox. We have about 58 gearset's to choose from ( no easy task ) and only 1 rear axle.
It weighs about 980 Kg.
more info will follow.

Yes Welcome to the board!
I too am intrested on more information about the setup!

Like was the block bored to 2.0L , What is the compression, was the piston change, was piston arm change to make it a stroker engine, gear ratio on trans and differential and gear box used. Is the M42 in europe different from the US m42.

Thank you for your help !

some info on the 320STW

The engine is a BMW Motorsport engine. It has Titanium valves (5mm stems) and rods. The pistons are so low that the oilring goes around the piston pin, which is extremely short too. The (standard) crank has smaller then normal mainbearing size ( same as rodbearingsize). It runs to a 9000rpm limit with 8500rpm shiftpoints. This engine is in complete Motorsport configuration and needs a rebuild every 1200km!!

That's true...if there were a site with the setup of that car would be way awesome. Thanks for all the info though. I've been wondering about that car since the videos were posted here a few weeks ago.

Welcome Euro Guys. What circuits are you guys running? and will you be in the USA anytime soon? Hope to see you on SpeedChannel and if Rolf keeps racing like that I'm sure we will all hear about him soon.

If possible it would be nice to get specs for the entire car ie, suspention, brakes, tranny, engine.....but if your keeping secrets I understand.....good luck.

Sounded like Rolf was breaking the sound barrier.

re-build every 1200km, hats off to you guys in the pit.....great work.

M3GTDriver-

thanks for responding on this thread!

I have a few questions myself, i'm a big engine-guy, so naturally i'm curious.. how is the valvetrain configured? Also, what are the main differences between the M42 and S42 that later replaced the M42? Finally, what throttle setup is being used, similar to slide-throttles from the S14 Grp A?

Thanks-

Hi everybody, yes I still try to follow this forum but at this very moment I'm in the U.S. at El Centro Naval base ( I'm on deployment with the Dutch Airforce, you see) and it's sometimes hard to find a free internet computer.
Good to see so much reaction and ofcourse I can't give all the info you ask. But I have some pictures that I will display as soon as I'm at home. ( they're too big to put in this forum).
As for the question which circuits we race: in Holland on Zandvoort and Assen and in Belgium on Spa-Franchorchamp and Zolder and NO we don't go to the U.S. (sorry)
I will answer some more questions when I'll be at home again in about 10 days but I found a picture small enough for this forum.

Wow, great stuff.

I'm also interested in the differences between the M42 an S42 -- I'd been told at some point I could use the S42 computer and intake manefold with my M42 for some nice gains, but info on the S42 is really hard to find in the US.

If you can enlighten us on any of these points, I'd really appreciate it too!

Thanks!
