540 rims

so my dad is currently driving a '97 540i. it has stock 17" rims that are beat to hell. like they are bringin down the rest of the car, they look so bad. they're in decent condition, don't get me wrong, but they're old, dirty and worn out, ya know? so he's been shopping around a little for new ones, but hasn't really been able to find any. he's looking for replacements, not really upgrades. he wants to stay with 17", because he feels any bigger, and he starts having to deal with performance rubber, and he doesn't want that. we live in NH so lo-pros would just decrease the already bad winter handling. he also doesn't want to spend $400-$500 a rim. anybody have any suggestions for nice looking rims for probably around $200 or so?

Look at wheelmax.com. If you get 17s your going to have to go with the same exact size tire in terms of sidewall you have now. If you go with 18s, you'll need a little thinner sidewall to compensate. I live in mass. so I feel ya on the road conditions. I've been fine with 17x45x225. I'm waiting for my new wheels to come in though. I got 18x40x225 on an 18x9 wheel and they'll be fine for the conditions. Wheelmax.com and tirerack are where you want to look.
