| My 2002 BMW 540 F1 This is My 2002 BMW 540 F1, I bought this car in Mexico city and is a direct import from Germany. In Mexico BMW has a sport edition for every car line that has the Formula one package. This includes Aero kit and special engine tunning. My 540 has almost the same engine as the M5 but it has been tuned by long time BMW tunner ALPINA. Hope you like it. Thanks

You are correct It is a 540 with M tech areo kit. They sold them in Mexico as a Formula one package. They do have slight modifications to the engine and they came with dose directly fron the factory. They gave me a tech sheet where they discrive the upgrades done and it has suspenssion, exhaust and computer tunning all done by Alpina. I has a steptronic gear box. And accordin to dealer specifications the engine can produce 390 hp. I did asked for the M5 wheels and they changed them at my request and for an extra ammount. All of this changes where made to the 540 F1, the X5 F1 and the 3 series F1 sold in Mexico. And the reason for this is that when BMW came to MExico every one started tooning the cars because they did not perform at 100% and this was because the main market for BMW is Mexico city, the largest city in the world and located very high above sea level so that made cars clumsy. Price tag for the basic F1 320 here in Mexico is $43 000 and you get a lousy 4 cylinder engine, 540 F1 jaja you would think Im joking if I told you what we had to pay. But if I lived in the US at the time I bought my 540 I could probably buy an M5 for a little more. In Mexico M5's where sold for no less than 110,000 dollars. But then again its Mexico and cars are twice as expencive because of taxes and other charges. Hope this helps to undestand what my car really is. Thanks JR

| Sniff Sniff.....whats that I smell.....could be a troll probally is. Let's see some proof, like a window sticker, or something. If you have enought to buy these cars with the "F1 package" then you can afford a digital camera. And intake and exhaust will NOT put your from 290 all the way to 390. Please list a technical list of what all you have. Bore of motor, stroke, degrees of cam's ect. Or i'm rasing the flag, and having you banned.

| Well I was browsing at the post many of you guys made and I came across this particular post. I have only seen 3 of these rare 5 series F1. In fact the only ones I have ever seen where 530's. And this is a 540, it’s really a hard to find car. I live in Germany and belong to an Alpina BMW club and the only thing that I can tell about this Car is that his owner does not really know what he has. I read about this car in a magazine here in Germany. This Car if I’m not mistaking is a 540 F1 and it does have a little more than 390hp, it has 400 bhp, that comes out of a V8-90° biturbo alpina tuned engine. This where made by BMW and Alpina for places where the Alpina wouldn’t pass pollution emissions and they disguised their BMW ALPINA B10s with a 540 F1 it is simply the equivalent to an M5 but with a smaller bi turbo tuned engine. According to a friend at the Alpina club there where only 59 F1's manufactured and production was dropped because of high cost (BMW sold this babies for little less than 95 thousand Euros around 97 thousand US dollars), and no sense of making the same thing as an M5. I might add this car does not have steptronic shifts, but does have Alpina's Switch tronic 5 speed shifting mechanism which makes this car almost as good as a SMG gear box. This makes you go from 0 to 100km/h(0 to 60 mph) in 5,4 seconds. And an impressive 284 km/h top speed that is around 175 mph. You might be thinking, where are all the Alpina Badges?, well they where not used since this car was marketed as a normal BMW line car. I do have some pics of the F1 530 that I downloaded from the BMW web siet a while ago. I will try to post them, its very hard to tell from the 530 or 540 just by looking at them. The only way you can tell is by going to the back of the car and looking at the the little badges and exhaust pipes, the 530 has one, the 540 has two pipes. For all of you guys that would like to read more about the Alpina B10s try browsing in to the website (http://www.alpina-automobile.de/ ) Hope this info works and congratulations to JR, you have a great peace of BMW History. Lest keep in touch I might be traveling to Mexico in March I would really like to see your car. Best Wishes Werner Höing

| There's a simple answer to this all... Just post some pictures of the rear of the car and under the bonnet/hood. That should solve it all. Till then I don't think anyone should be calling BS or otherwise. Let's just wait till there are pictures of it all. As a side note: Unless this is part of the "personalized" line of BMWs (with custom colors available) imola red is only offered on the M3 and M5. However, the car is clearly steptronic. There's more here than ANYONE knows about...so let's all settle down once again. -Prince -Prince |
