Is this one of yours?

Sweet E46 M3

I was wondering if this is someone's one the forum. Im a freshman at the University of Michigan now and maybe be transfering to Georgetown. If I get in, I get a new car...around $50k. Currently I've been considering a new C6 Corvette (I had a 97 C5) which should be available by the summer, or a Porsche Carrera 996 with the factory aerokit (I had a 99 w/o the gt3 kit). Both are superb cars but I have been curious about the E46, and I just saw this one and I think Im hooked. A buddy of mine had a E36 '99 and E46 '01 at my high school but I never got to drive it. Also I raced one with my Vette (I used to live in Potomac) and I beat a laguna seca blue e46 with the plate "DTM POWER" Im guessing the owner (looked pretty young and persian) is on this forum. Im not trying to dis the car but from what I have heard they should be close with a C5 but they are harder to drive. Also Ive heard the stories of thhe '01 being recalled. Anything to look for? What do you think the value of a 02 SMG, 18's with 20K miles is worth? Thanks guys. One last comment...can someone tell me how to post pictures because I know many of you may be skeptical and don't want to come off as a liar. (because there are definatley a bunch on these online forums, Im a member of corvetteforum.com and supercars.net)

50k could probably get you a used e46. If i were you, i would just worry about school for right now and get a nice car later. Having a nice car in college is a big hassle. Beware of haters. Sorry to sound like a parent, but trust me, i'm talking through experience, its not worth it. Work hard for a few years, play hard after.

just my 2 cents

My good friend just purchased a NEW 2003 titanium/black cloth/leather with 19s, sunroof, xenons, H/K, Lumbar, power seats, but it is a 6spd and not SMG....all for 53 OUT THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMG is around a 2500 dollar option, so you might not be able to get the car that cheap, but if the car is lightly optioned, and you get a kickass deal like my buddy did, then it is possible...just have to search

I dont think I would buy new. Probably slightly used. Should I stay away from 2001s or were some not effected by the recall? Is there a way to tell. Hey James I see you live in rockville. Thats real close to me. I lived in Potomac, and Ill probably be coming home soon. Do you have to be a supporting member to post pics? Also are those BBS LMs on the Black M3 custom? I was looking for a set but they only come in silver. Thanks guys for the help.

That blows my mind that any parent would buy those cars for a kid, but whatever.

I imagine those LMs were special order, although I don't have extensive experience with BBS distributors to know how difficult it would be to get that done. The other option would be doing it yourself, and given the design of the wheel, there are only a handful of shops in the country I would trust to disassemble a 3 piece wheel to powdercoat and/or fix.

Yes, I live in rockville, and am about 2 minutes from potomac, off of Wootton parkway and Falls Road. I have been out of the scene for a while, but am trying to reorganize my time to partake in more car related events again.

The way to tell if the m3 has been affected by the recall is by the build date and/or VIN, as the bearing/crankshaft failure only affected certain production dates. I would do a search to find out the exact dates affected though. However, keep in mind that BMW extended the warranty on those motors to 100k miles, with pretty much a no questions asked replacement policy, a la Nikasil block for older 4 liter v8.
