This is Daytona Violet

Leo's (bimmer143) car after a good 4 hours under the random orbital buffer. The car came out utterly fantastic.

This was just before we hit the moldings with dressing:

What did the car look like before the 4 hour job? My paint is all sorts of F'ed up and I have one of those orbital waxers...should I spend the time and do it? Does it make a difference?

It makes all the difference, but it is during the paint preparation stage. I used the orbital buffer in this case with Meguiar's Swirl Remover 2.0 as the paint was covered with scuffs, and both light and not-so-light scratches. Once I was satisfied that the paint was responding to the process by pulling it out into the sun, I went to town. I used about a quarter's worth of SR2.0 per panel, and worked it until the product was dry. The result was better than I expected, as not only were the scuffs and light scratches removed, but the heavier scratches on the trunk were subdued as well.

Now the paint was prepared for a nice coat of wax. My new favorite is S100, which is easily the slickest, most reflective wax that I have used to date. All it took was one coat of S100, and the car was poppin'

Here is a pic of the car just after washing, while I am waiting for the paint to cool a bit, but you can't really see the paint condition. In this pic it has only been washed. :\

As for S100, I have made everyone in my remote vicinity use it on their cars. This is my very good friend Eric's 2.5RS one week after a nice round of washing/S100, in these pics the paint is filthy but still looks damn good:

edit - well well well, someone seems to have left themselves in on my computer.

So Meguiar's Swirl Remover for the Orbital, then S100 wax. Does Meguiar's make that too? And do I use the Orbital to apply that as well, or do I use the common rag? Thanks for your help, I cannot wait to be big pimpin in the non-swirl A4 tomorrow...

The S100 is not necessarily applied with the orbital like the SR, and is not made by Meguiar's. Also the only place I have seen that sell S100 are the Harley Davidson stores, otherwise you will pay $10 more per cannister if you buy it labelled as P21S at places like http://www.bavauto.com.

I would hand-apply the S100 to the new, swirl-free A4 and then remove it by hand - which you pretty much have to as you need to remove S100 before it dries.

My car looked like ASS before CMT got his hands on it! It was swirl city with lots of dirt in it. He's been giving me crap about it for a while now and I finally just let him go for it. The results were beyond what I expected and I owe him BIG TIME!!

He has inspired me and I'll be working to keep it looking good. I love this color and I now remember why. My paint was so dirty you could barely see the slight color changes it has in different light. I just bought the RCs and CMT put the icing on the cake!! Thanks Chris, I owe you!!

Chris, It seems to slip thru the air a little faster now. Not that it had too much of a problem before.

Well, I'm off to go buy at least some Meguiar's SR 2.0 today, and I can go to Seacoast HD tomorrow if it is not open today to get some of the infamous S100. Thank you CMT and Bimmer143 for all of your help.

I'll make sure I take before and after pics of my car to share.

One more thing of note - I used a regular, cotton bonnet on the orbital to work the SR. I would have preferred to use a foam pad, but I did not have one onhand and neither did the local Super Palace or whatever autoparts store is called. When working the SR, do not use a lot of pressure on the buffer, but let the machine work the product onto the paint by repeatedly passing over the panel until it is dry, then wiping off the excess with a detailing towel.

What color is the A4? If it is a darker color, you should see a substantial difference after just the SR alone.

Leo, it was my pleasure. We will have to do it again at the end of winter, when I recommence my own detailing project on the Estoril. I did find it funny that I start my car in April/may, and maintain from there, and in only one afternoon I had yours right on par with it as far as reflectivity and shine. Gotta love those darker colors.
