response to rice guy

I tried to reply to rice guy but when I submitted my reponse you guys had already dumped his second thread. I think he makes a strong point. It is derogatory and I constantly hear people on this site refer to cars as rice-rockets or riced out. If you guys monitor your site so well then why don't you make sure that everyone isnt' offended instead of just certain groups. I think it's pretty lame that his thread was taken off.

Theres a reason why all the "rice" posts like this are deleted.
Also, rice is not a racial slur, unlike some of the names he listed. Yes it is derogatory and thats why the posts that argue about "rice" are deleted fairly quickly, as i'm sure this thread will be soon.

Rice is most certainly derogatory when it's used as an adjetive to describe something that none of you guys like. If it's not a racial slur then how come some of the descriptions he wrote were? Camel is not a racial slur, neither is moon, neither is coon, but you guys all freak out when someon uses those words.

I agree that 'rice' is derogatory. However, it has lost its racial connotation for a few years now - mainly because even people of Asian decent (like myself) use it on a regular basis. The phrase originated because 99% of the cars that had useless modifications were from Japan, hence the term "rice". Now pretty much ANY car that is full of useless modifications can be called "rice".

As for the other terms, they are not directed towards a vehicle's manufacturing origins. They are referring to a people, which inherently will be viewed as a racial slur.

This issue is so beat to death it's not even funny. But the short of it all is that I have no issue with people using the term "rice" when used properly. Now if anyone started saying it about a PERSON, then we'd have serious problems. But as it stands, we tolerate the term because of all the aforementioned reasons.

Now off to the Recycling Bin this thread goes...
