Need help with avoiding sales tax when registering car

So, i bought my car in VA and i live in CA. I was soo excited over buying the M3 that i totally forgot to ask the seller to put a lower price on the title so when i register it ill get charged less for tax.

I really need to figure out how to avoid paying this sale tax otherwise i can't register my car, it's way too much money.

Only way ive been able to do it was the sale price on the title...but when u go 2 low they go to blue book value so thats another thing to watch out for. Also, you could try to convince the person at the DMV that the person that sold it to you was a relitive...then you have to pay 0 sales tax. But i think thats a bit of a long shot, since i would assume you need some sort of proof. GL

The only chance you had to pay less was a lower price on the tittle but now it's a bit too late. Congrats on the new car though.

do you think this would fly? if told the person at the DMV the car came with an extra set of racing wheels and an extra engine the car itself it only worth 10k or soemthign like that?

Nope, they would still make u pay the SALES tax....that includes the items that were included in the SALE. I believe...maybee im wrong.

Couldn't you talk to the seller again and ask him to change some things around....
or try selling the car to a relative for really cheap and tell him to register it.. then switch it back in your name...

Btw, i just thought i'd let everyone know that Osh thought of this great idea. He said to report to the DMV that I lost the title and during the replacement process I'll pull a fast one with the numbers.
