carfax isnt all that reliable... try taking the car to a tech you know and have them look for signs of paint work. that might be your best bet. sometimes if you rub your fingers over areas around the hood and such if it feels rough, generally paint work has been done. many types of wrecks can occur and work can be done without showing up on a carfax.

I know that...I used to work for a dealership for a while.. I now a few tricks to find that out. the car in 5 hours away, so I will not know anyone to look at it.
