Hi i'm new to DTMpower and im right about to get my first car...i get my license in a month. My parents said they would spend around 25k or less on it. Tell me what you think i should get...

Honestly,
I would not recommend you getting any of the cars that you listed. Since this will be your first time driving I would recommend getting a cheap e36 for around 8k. God forbid, but if something were to happen to the car it would not be the end of the world. Plus, you insurance is gonna be the roof on any car you have...the e36 should be substantially lower than any Boxter, Vette or M3. Get some experience driving the e36 for 6 months to a year and then sell it and get one of the nice cars you listed.

not only will you not run the risk of bending something increadibly expesive but you also will appreciate a car like a boxster or m3 of whatever, more after you have driven a lesser car for a while. trust me on that one

I doubt you'll find a nice example of the M3, Vette or Boxster for 25k. The Z is way over your price range. That leaves the Mercedes and BMW's. I'd go with the BMW, but not the newer E46 models you listed. I recommend an E36 318 until you've mastered the "art" of driving. Upgrade the suspension, wheels, and whatever else you like with the cash you've saved. Buy a helmet and go to driving schools and the autocrosses put on by your local BMW Club chapter (don't forget to become a member-only 35 bucks a year and you get a great magazine too!). When you have graduated college you can then go out and get an M3 or Boxster S or 'Vette. Trust me on this one - lower insurance costs, lower fuel costs and lower likelyhood of getting into serious trouble. Oh, unless you're into washing your car every 2-3 days, don't get a black car!

I too would also tell him to get a e36 other than a M3 but you think hes gonna listen? Come on now! Actually think about this.. If someone offered to buy you a m3 would you really choose a 318i over it. I wouldnt :P I know I know I should..... but i wouldnt! Anyways I wasn't as lucky so I started with a 325i. If you are going to get one of those cars listed please don't become a traffic statistic.

I love most Porches but I really hate boxsters, too. They look like chick cars IMHO. They fu*ked up on the back of car.

?? Do you know what your talking about...I've seen M3's with less than 40k miles for much elss than 25. Ive seen vettes for les than 25 and ive DEF seen boxster less than 25...all with reasonable miles (low 30k max) AND THE Z? its 27 brand new ive seen many many z's for 25,500 which could be knocked down to 24...

i would have to agree with those that say you should stay away from the vette, m3, Z, and porsche. probably a bit too much for you at such a young age. hopefully your parents will agree, lol.

if you do end up with one of those cars, as someone mentioned earlier, please don't become a traffic statistic.

For a 1st car, i'd definately say 01/02 325ci.

I mean unless i knew you personally, and could say your an awesome driver, there's no way i'd reccomened a car like a C5 vette to a 16 y/o; that would be like giving your kid a pet tiger.

Although the 99 M3 may be faster and IMO looks better then a stock E46 3'er; The E46 has a much nicer interior and its resale will probably hold up better then the ageing E36. Besides, the interior of the E46 is vastly superior to the E36 interior IMO. There is also the warrenty which is nice, unless you plan on modding it right away (just save for a s/c)..and the ever important: chicks like new cars.

As for the boxter, well some may think its a pussy car, but i think its a pussy magnet. Its not that slow, its a porsche, its a convertable, and chicks like all three of those.

350z, well its a nice car for the money, and it looks great. But its clearly outclassed by the competition. If your into nice looks get a BMW or Mercedes, if you want raw sportscar power theres the Vette.

I mean, really, unless you've taken driving classes at the track. And have some good experience behind the wheel of high powered sports cars; the Corvette is probably too much car for you, and sure naturally every teenage driver thinks that they are the shit and can drive and drift and everything. But fortuneately, when they screw up (and most teenagers do) they're probably going 25mph though a corner in a honda civic...not 90 in a vette.

As for the CLK, well i don't really like the CLK. I mean its cool and all, but there are better models out there. It seems like too much of a compromise car. It will look pretty, it won't be very fast, but it wil be comfortable. But personally i think the E46 3 series looks better, is more comfortable and is probably quicker then the 320.


So for the record, E46 325ci is my vote
