| yea thats the good thing bout it, the idiots that cant keep it legal, but what if i change the engine in my car as such it can still be road legal? i just have to get a mod plate like it says?

| Of course you can. Thats what engineers are for. Yes you do. Its not difficult, its not even that expensive (on average, $80 for the first mod, $55-$60 for following items). A chat to an engineer about planned mods so you know what you may be required to meet for them to pass it off, then go to work. |

| still shit if you dont have an engineer as a friend? sooo i knew those laws snuck in but... if i get a custom fab exhaust made by a workshop where do i go from there? also if i have a pre-existing aftermarket exhaust on a car what do i do then? obviously the 1st one hasnt been done yet and the second vehicle being diesel needs no cats and has no muffler (has a turbo which makes exhaust quiet enough to meet the decibel limit) so EVERY lil thing i do to my car needs a mod plate on it? thats what boostcruisin made it sound like but yeah their favourite mods are usually illegal anyways so u cant get the jist of everything from them. those laws are too complicated with the whole 'whatever car your driving will be impounded' ect.... they should just make it more points taken off, larger fines and jail time.... so pretty much make it easier to lose license then tougher penalties for driving unlicensed... like a boostcruising comment i read said (the only one i thought was fairly good) 'isnt that what the points system is for?' not against the idea because it will make it a tad safer but all up... hmm why dont they build us some fucking racetracks in the areas the laws are trialed too... clowns keep complainin bout people drivin too fast and 'hoons' i dont like to gloat bout it coz i know its dangerous but i hit 160 everyday and take a few bends each day as if i were racing... i went to a racetrack once and didnt speed or crazy drive for a week or 2... everyone ive talked to who have been to a racetrack say the exact same thing. GET THE HINT! there was even a confessed street racer on 60mins who said the same thing on national tv... they have targeted a community which has no way of escape... either i travel 400+ k's to get to a racetrack or i let my passion for driving get the better of me and lose my car. all i can say is thankgod im moving closer to a racetrack next year. all this is jus my opinion and i may have gone outa hand at one stage seein as i havent read over it but yeah... shithouse... summin up: just make the points system tougher and build racetracks

| Dude, the laws you are talking about, getting busted for doing things, they have been in place for many, many years. Illegal modifications are illegal modifications, the changes to the rules were never part of that legislation. What was illegal last year is still illegal this year. What has changed is now if you are a repeat serial offender, police can impound your vehicle because clearly a monetary fine has no impact on some people. Last year you would have kept racking up defect notices and fines, now you can still get the same but if you continually ignore the rules you will have your car impounded. That is simple and clear cut, have an illegally modified vehicle, bring attention to yourself, keep ignoring the laws, you get your car taken away from you because clearly you dont deserve to be on the road. There is no problem with your custom exhaust as long as it applies to relevent noise and emissions laws applicable to your vehicle. So go out and get any exhaust you want, its fine. Its your (and to an extent, the seller) duty to make sure any vehicle you purchase is legal and roadworthy. If the vehicle isnt legal, its really your fault. No, there are a clear list of rules covering just about every modification you could think of to a vehicle. A great bulk of minor modifications simply dont need to be engineered, they have rules which apply to their modification, but they dont need to be mod plated. An example would be changing to aftermarket wheels. Where mod plates and engineers come into it is any substancial modification that alters the operation or safety of a vehicle. Engine transplants, aftermarket seats, brakes, for example. These require inspection to essentially make sure the vehicle is safe for use on the roads and applies to relevent design rules and standards. Engineers arent expensive to go and see about mod plates, the only time it gets expensive is when significant and extensive testing is required, like for emissions with aftermarket ecu's or stress/load/breakage tests with chassis. So dont get all hyped up, again what has changed is simply the power of police and transport departments to impound your vehicle for multiple infringement notices. Keep your car legal, keep your car, its that simple and hopefully it will weed out some of the dodgy stuff found out on our roads. Last edited by MaDhAtTeR : 12-13-2007 at 05:10 AM. |

| thanks for clearing it up thats alright then... thats what i thought first off but reading the boostcruisin stuff it just made it sound like every minor mod will need a modplate...i still think they should build more racetracks though!

| thats because some of them went nuts and really overreacted. Its not like you are going to have cars impounded left right and centre. For sure, but what we also need is for members of the public to stop being such god damn morons and complaining about said race tracks. I mean, come on, you move into an estate where a track operates, then you complain about the noise? what a load of bollocks. If councils werent such spineless pricks we would still have some of our tracks in operation. |
