Queensland Road Rules/Regulations

Hey guys and girls,

As most of us know Queensland is quite different from other states in a lot of areas regarding modification and road use laws.

I thought it would be good to have a thread for Queenslanders to ask questions and make comments regarding road rules, modification rules, engineering etc.

I can start by asking:

Does anyone know what the bare minimum requirements are for a road registered/registerable car that has undergone a stripout for weight saving purposes?

I know that all doors must be able to be opened from the inside and outside. The vehicle must be able to be locked (secured)
There must be a properly installed roadworthy seatbelt for each seat in the vehicle. (This is counted by the number of seats listed on the compliance plate not the number of seats you have left in the car)
You must carry a spare if the vehicle was sold with one or a patch in a can kit if it's what the factory supplied.
Windows must be able to function as they were desigined to.

The list goes on.
These are the main ones I remember from when I built a Variety Club Bash car a couple of years ago.
Luke.

That's a good start, thanks for the info.

Do you know what the regulations are for roadworthy seatbelts? Are harnesses legal?
Also, does anyone know about legal bodywork materials, ie are carbon fibre panels allowed? I heard somewhere that they weren't due to fact they can be razor sharp if smahsed or broken. I'm not sure if there's any truth to that though.

As for the seatbelts, they have to be firmly anchored in original factory positions or mounted to positions you have had inspected and signed off by Qtransport with the appropriate Modification plate (blue plate) on the car.

If you use harnesses they must meet ADR and Not impeed entry or exit of the rearseat passengers. This can be worked around if you remove the rear seat and seat belts from the car and get it inspected and complianced for fewer passengers either 1 or 2 if you leave in the other front seat. You will need a blue plate stating that the car only carries 2 passengers.

Sorry I don't know anything about the panels.

so-long as the panels are rigid and all exposed edges have a radius of no less then 5MM and they don't let tires or wheels protrude you'll be right.

For a complete list of legal mods in QLD please see:

I'm pretty sure you can replace all the glass with that perspex-type (I'll look up what it is, seems pretty rare), but the windscreen can't be converted to plastic/resin.

Well that just sucks! What about left hand drive and vintage vehicles? I wish they'd leave the system alone it worked better before.

and all the ADR shit with importing half cuts e.t.c. if the privet owner can afford special plates or what ever they should be able to drive their pride an joy!
