| VW Question So I posted this on another forum already but I figured I'd see if anyone here had any infor for me... OK, so my girlfriend has a 2002 VW Jetta that's got something wrong with it. It was parked for the last 2(ish) weeks because she had surgery. The battery died and it was about due to be replaced so I went and picked up a new one. It started right up no big deal. Well she goes to drive it and the engine light comes on and it runs like SHIT. At a stop it shudders real bad and when you give it gas it has like no power, takes forever to accelerate and shudders up to about 15 or 20 mph. After that is still has no power but the shudder stops. When you come back to a stop it feels like it's fighting dying. Anyone got any ideas what this could be? Me and my woman are both broke because she's been off work and I really don't wanna take it to the dealership and get raped. I'm hoping it's something small that I can fix myself. Any input is much apreciated. Thanks! |

| Well, my woman took it somewhere and had the code pulled. She just texted me and said it was something to do with the number 3 cylinder and it needed a tune-up. What's a tune-up gonna cost me on it and what are the chances it actually fixes the problem? Am I gonna do a tune-up then have to do a bunch more shit? |

| Sounds like Fuel starvation to me.... all the sediment in the gas take settled after not being driven for a few weeks, then got sucked into the fuel filter. During the tune up, have them change the fuel filter too. (or change that first, and see if it helps).

| Chris, At the VERY least take the time to figure out what the engine code is. Run it to Schucks, borrow their code reader (free) and see what it says. Don't send your chick to a place that capitalizes on dumb chicks and expect favorable/respectable results. My money is on Vacuum Leak though!

| I work on vw's alot. what motor are you working on? it could be that the coil pack is failing on #3. very common on the 1.8t . as far as tune up goes. plugs fuelfilter. it prob could use a timingbelt and water pump. if you have not changes the coolent temp sensior you should. VW has alos changes the oil filters the 1.8t to a 86 turbo disel oil filter. bigger in size to keep motor from sludging and destroying the motor. you have more questions you should get on vwvortex.com you will get more help over their with your car. |
