driving in areas like that actually increases your ability to judge clearances as slim as a few millimeters.
Driving in areas like Thailand and the Philippines, I could squeeze through areas easily with just a few centimeters on each side driving at 35mph or more and parallel park in areas in Boston where none of the locals can.
Driving poorly is probably not the best term, driving less courteously probably is. When you drive in areas like that, driving courteously gets you no where and you'll be honked to death by angry drivers behind you.
I've seen westerners leave their rented cars in the middle of the road coz they couldn't drive in that kind of traffic.
