| Should be interesting to see if this technology filters into the Japanese and American cars and maybe into the rest of Europe. The Japanese and Americans already have CVT technology, so I would imagine the DSG isn't too far of a leap from that or BMW's SMG.

Actually a dog box (or crash box) can have helical cut gears and not whine. What makes a dog box a dog box is the dog tooth engagement (no syncronizers). you have to double clutch it, or use force and fast shifting to shift it. That twin cone transmission you were talking about is Audi's CVT.
