| i had a 90 s13 fastback. loved that car, RWD, 5spd, glossy black paint straight out of Earl Scheibb, had to sell it to fix up my main car though.......i still fantasize about building my dream s13 w/ s15 front end but i think im drifting towards more european these days |

The car is VERY torque happy, though. My friend has a 1998 non-VTEC Integra LS and I've beaten him in a race without even taking the motor to full redline. Also beat my friends 2005 Ford Focus in a race (not that hard). I can't wait until I can get some real power in the car, though. Quote:

| [quote=CapnNismo]I got the KA24E (2.4L SOHC) with an automatic transmission. Paid $500 for the car and it ran damn near flawlessly, so I'm not complaining one little bit. QUOTE] fair enough, Australia version of this car came out in 2 different models, first ones had a CA18DET which were a weak engine but could be built up pretty tough and this followed by the later model with an SR20DET. The SR20's are said to be bullet proof! these engines are really strong and pack a heavy punch and when nicely tuned can chase down Supras. They also continued this engine into the S14 and S15 200SX's. I was just always curious what import 180SX (known down here) in the US sported under the bonnet. What sorts of figures are averaged out of these engines?

| The CA18 is just as strong as the SR20. The only difference being in the later SR20 models which had better turbos (T28 vs the first-gen SR20 and the CAs had T25s). In Europe, the 200sx never got the SR20 until the S14 chassis and they never got the S15. The KA24E put down 140hp at the crank, and the KA24DE had 155. There are a few aftermarket turbo kits for the KA24DE, and those make A SHIT LOAD of power. Figure a 2.4L SR20 with more torque and that's a KA24DET. The KA24ET does pretty much just as well as its DOHC brother, but lacks a little bit in the power department. The only real downside to the CA18DET is the lack of aftermarket support. But this engine makes top end power like an S2k. It can be made to redline at 10k rpm easily - and that's what I want. Now when I go back to Austria in December of this year, I am going to be looking for CA parts that I can bring back to the States. Thinking like chips, ROM tunes, and the like. Another difference between the Japanese CA and the European CA is that the Euro motor sits higher than both the KA/SR (which share the same motor mounts) and the Japanese CA sits the lowest out of them all. It uses the same motor mounts as the KA/SR with the only difference being that the CA mounts sling the motor closer to the ground. Euro S13 owners have problems fitting strut tower bars across the front of the engine because the motor sits so high, so they can't close the hood. But just lower the motor with some Nismo motor mounts (CA or KA/SR) and you're good to go.

| yeah we figure my bud's 240 with the ca makes about 200 with the fmic, full 3inch turboback, and intake. fuckin thing redlines at 8 grand too, and thats the stock rev limiter. cars definitely got balls.

| Yeah, they're stout motors. They also have more advanced cam designs than the SR20 which is what lets them redline so nicely (and efficiently). I'd be satisifed with 200whp for my car.

| Well, if I had a KA24DE, I probably would turbocharge that motor. But then again, the CA is just so much more ... sexy. It won't make quite the same power as the KA24DET would, but it would still be a much funner motor, imo. Plus, I can get an entire front clip for like $2k. A KA24DET would run nearly $3k. So with all the money I saved, I can buy Nismo and HKS parts galore I've already got a brand new HKS SSQV and HKS Type-I turbo timer sitting just behind me on my dresser that's collecting dust ...

| CapnNismo go poke around http://www.club240.com if you haven't already. You can pick up $500 Ka24de's, and there's a thread in there to make 200whp for like $500. |

| Nah, I don't want the KA24DE swap. A swap is not even on the agenda at the moment. I want the car to be bullet proof from the ground up. Suspension and brakes will be top notch and then the wheels and then a motor. This car is being done right.
