As above. What excally is the problem and what car?

Is it a motor problem? For the most part, if you're not keen on doing it yourself, any competent electrician can fix it.

Hey guys...

Not a motor problem, its a cable problem, one of them is broken.

I would take care of the job myself but I hear from Master Techs thats its quite a fidily job, so at the fix of breaking something or stuffing it up somehow i would like to pay a professional to do it.

So really, my question is, does anyone know of any places in Sydney that would be capable of carrying out this job.

Thanks for your time!

-JPS

there is a sunroof specialist in artarmon in whiting street. just a few doors down from the Mustang dealership (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... mustangs.

or at least it was there last time i looked.

i know Bromspec (norther beaches) were gonna have a go at mine a few years ago. mine still slides but the plastic lifters broke so no flippy uppy no more. he said there was a service kit for them.

whatever you do dont go to the dealership they do not repair them, they just replace the whole 'cassette' - $3,000 + labour i believe he quoted me. i just stole my keys back off they valet guy and ran.

Its a job, the Sun roof is the first thing in when they are assembled, We brought an E36 which had sat in the open for 2 years with the roof open 20mm, as well as all the plastics turned to powder the roof seized the wires and rotted the rubbers, even so the drought had saved it from major water damage. Mine was easy as I was able to do it when the E36 was stripped out for a total repaint, the head lining and the wind screen were already out, Not surprised if its $3000 in labour too from a dealer.

i had rust in my sunroof and got it repaired.
I had to remove it myself and gave it to a rust specialist, because they refused to touch the sunroof.

Once they fixed the rust and repainted it i then took it to a trimmer and he retrimmed it however when i put it all back in it would not close all the way, i reistalled it myself and t hought id stuffed up, (VERY TIME CONSUMING AND DIFFICULT ended up scratching the paint) and it did not close i thought i should take it to someone.

I took it to a place that said he would fix it and charged me $450.... WHen i got it back it seemed to be fine, however later found out that all they did was bend the blind (inside sunroof cover) and that temporarly fixed the closing problem.

The actual reason for it not closing was the trimmer had used too thick a material so the blind was sticking and would not let the sunroof close. SO this guy charged $450 to bend my blind basically breaking it, which after a few weeks was completly stuffed and i was back to square one!!!

The point is i should have trusted myself and did it myself! I ended up getting a second hand blind and it was fixed.

I rang around and visited heap of places, you will find this from most places in sydney wont help you, my recommendation is do it yourself.... the next best thing would be to try wreckers like asv or para prest, or other option might be an auto trimmer, these guys take it apart all the time. Normal repair shops wont give u a bar and know nothing of what they are doing, ull end up wastting $450 and getting ripped like me. If it is a broken cable, from memory it might be pretty hard to fix.... u need to get the cable along rails and ahhhh its a nightmare.... anyway id try asv or para prest first, and they should have the parts there for you.. good luck!
