Help with Wheels??

Hey lads,

Only recently joined the forum, as I have only recently bought myself a 1999 540i.

Basically i bought the car second hand off a family member who only drove it to work in Nth Sydney from Cremorne, so its in primo condition, only 80,000ks on it, and he never drove it hard at all.

The car has never had any major problems...

Anyway, I live in Canberra and after driving it back, and having it for a week, i noticed a bit of a shake in the steering wheel as it comes up to, then passes 80kph.

I took it to a wheel repair place for a balance/alignment and he tells me that ALL 4 WHEELS ARE BUCKLED!!!!

WTF!?!?!??!?!??!?!?

After more research and talking to some BMW technicians, i have been told that it is rare, but does happen.

Waht i want to kow is if anyone has experienced of heard of this happening and secondly, where can i start to look for some after market BMW wheels. I ahve already asked the guys at BMW and they charge $1000 per wheel for 5 series.

Anyone know of anyone flogging some 19' wheels? Tyres are still all good.

The option is that I can get the wheels "rolled" back into shape, but this is gonna cost me $160 a wheel and he may not even be able to fix them if they are cracked.

HELP?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

WELCOME!! I'd definately replace all 4 rims and not even consider fixing them, or driving on them any more for that matter.. Hit the DTM classifieds, and extend your search back maybe 3 months, as I remember a lot of 19s on the market a while back. Also try a few local tyre shops, ebay, etc...
Also remember that buying anything second hand may land you in the same predicament...

i just had a set of 15s rolled back into shape and gutter rash machined for 60 per wheel

thats where i buy all my parts for my E30, they have a large range of original BMW wheels in stock.

if you want aftermarket, just going to any wheel shop that sell the flash shinny wheels, they could put a tyre and wheel package together for you.

Thanks Guys,

Will check into some of this.

Murphs - have you experienced any problems after having them rolled?

I know continuing to drive on them is gonna make it worse, but I just dont kow if a can fork out the money at the monet for new wheels.

Can it cause serious damage to the axels or anything like that if I keep on driving on them?

Also, how do i put a pic in my sig??

Murphs - Where did you get them done at? Most places are asking $70/80 per wheel.

Also, are all 540i called E something??

Excuse my ignorance, my former car was a pocket rocket so im a little unsure with these big beemers?

I basically have a 1999 540i Executive. 4.4 litre v8. Whats the other name for this model. I see references to E35, E39 and stuff?

Please explain?
