Well, that's all folks...

Well, my M3 is no more. I have just one of the many wastes of human life that live in the Hartford area to thank for that. The cliff notes would read as such:

Date: Wednesday, July 11, 2007
Time: 8:00 pm
Location: 84W, just outside the Hartford tunnel
Driver of car causing accident: No driver's license
Owner of car above drive was operating: NOT INSURED

The full story is even better:

It is around 8 on a rainy Wednesday night. I come to a stop in the left-most lane of 84W in Hartford, since a grey minivan in front of me is also stopped. I wait for traffic to move. Although I do not know at the time, there is a 3-car pileup in front of me which has caused us to stop. I hear skidding, and look in my rearview mirror to see a Nissan Maxima approaching me at a high rate of speed. I prepare to get hit, hard. The driver tries to steer between my car and the guardrail. There is not enough room, and he hits me squarely in the left rear quarter panel at about 40-50mph. He pushes me forward into the van in front of me. By pushing me to the right, slightly, he has cleared enough space to drive by between my pancaked car and the guardrail. He does just that, only stopping as several people jump out of their cars to stop him and traffic in the right lanes does not allow him to flee the scene. We force him to stay at the scene until the police arrive. At this point, he sits in the back seat of his car and tells the police that he was not driving. They do not buy this (there was no one else in the car). I go to the hospital to get checked out, and my car, which is not driveable, is towed. I find out later that not only did this fine young man not have a license, but the car he was driving (which belongs to his girlfriend) is uninsured.

My back is still pretty sore. My car is totalled. Estimated damage is greater than $12k, so I guess that makes it pretty simple. The front was mainly cosmetic, with radiator and some other damage as well, however. The left wheel, as you will see in the pictures, is very bent, and the suspension is destroyed. The rear trailing arm, tie rod ends, etc are all toast, resulting in the healthy position in which the wheel now sits.

Well, I guess it is time to start looking for a new car...I shudder to think what my insurance company is going to settle on.

I would have kicked that kids ass. I hope something good happens for you. There is an E36 M3 sedan, Hellrot on Black leather by my house for 12800 with 98k. I'll find the number if you want it.

Feel better and be glad it wasnt worse on your body! Cars are replaceable you my friend (on the internet) are not!

Man that blows!

Your car was clean. I'd be prepared to fight the insurance company for the settlement amount.

I had to fight when I totalled my ti, they tried to give me $6500 and said since I never had it appraised with the M3 conversion complete, they would only base the settlement on a stock 318ti.

After a stack of cars.com, autotrader.com and various other examples that mached my car did they finally cave and give me $10,500 (since that seemed to be what a 318ti in the same condition as mine would have cost.)

Don't give in, and if you ever see that guy again, run him over for me.

And when you run him over, I recommend using HIS girlfriend's new car.

That really sucks man.
Glad you're okay though.

Aaron,

Chris and I are sitting here looking at those pics with horror, and we care about one thing - That fact that you sound OK. The guy who hit you sounds like a real piece of garbage and will certainly get his, and the car is a tragedy, but all that matters is that you walked away without serious injury.

-Seriously dude, I know it's hard but since current laws do not allow you to bitchslap that worthless fuck the best you can do is put your head down and bull your way through whatever bullshit the insurance company is going to throw your way. I'm glad you're OK man! - CMT

Thanks everyone, I am glad to be OK, as things certainly could have been worse. Also, I keep wondering to myself how I did managed to keep such composure at the time of the accident. I guess it took just long enough for the realization to set in. What kills me the most about all this is the timing, I am closing on a house at the end of the month and really didn't need all this BS to deal with...

Also, I figure the insurance company won't appreciate any aftermarket parts on the car quite as much as I did, so I plan on making a trip down to the garage either today or tomorrow to remove/replace whatever I can back to OEM. With that in mind, I can probably salvage the following parts:

-2 Kenwood Excelon amplifiers (will have to get exact specifications)
-10 disc Sony CD changer with matching AM/FM/Cassete head unit/controller
-Passenger side ZKW headlight
-Prolumen 4100k HID kit (Possibly minus one bulb)
-Euro style tail lights
-Active Autowerkes Level I kit (3.5" CAI, 3.5" HFM, software)
-Active Autowerkes Track Pipe (Is in excellent condition, but I would need a stock midsection to swap onto the car for the insurance company)
-AC Schnitzer (red) adjustable sway bars (front and rear)
-Remus Exhaust (Twin 90mm tip version, still functional but has some mileage on it. Again, I would probably need a stock or comparable exhaust to swap onto the car)
-Great Lakes Brake kit (Front/rear Brembo blanks, pads, fluid, still in boxes)

I may be forgetting some things, but certainly let me know if there is any interest on the more difficult to remove parts (exhaust, etc).

Aaron, I have a stock exhaust I'd give you. I'm down in the CT area that you described relatively frequently as my girlfriend lives off of exit 16 on 84. I also have two stock headlights and a bunch of misc other stuff. I'll look as to what exactly I have.
