| The Bridge anyone see this documentary? Its the first "movie" I have not fallen asleep watching in years. For those who don't know about it, the director set up cameras all around the golden gate bridge and had them running for 24/365 catching people committing suicide. he then went to speak with the families involved. having known people that have killed themselves in the past (and one friend who I cant believe hasn't yet due to and illness) it really brought out a lot of emotions. crazy crazy footage

| I don't think I can handle that kind of documentary. I have lost friends - Not to suicide, but to tragedy, and I do not know if I could take the personal anger issues were one of my friends to choose self slaughter. Loss can be maddening in and of itself....but when compounded by the fact that it was deliberate? Man oh man. I cannot imagine. I don't want to imagine. It must be really, really tough stuff. ![]() |

I never thought I could sit through something like that (or would want to) but i was glued to the tv, and I am someone who really cant watch serious stuff like that in general. certainly not for everyone, but not what you expect either.

| Dwight, can you go into it a bit more about the kid that survived? How did he not die? Was he a quadruplegic as a result? Was his outrageous fucking luck enough to make him appreciate the life and second chance he was given? I'll admit it. I'm curious. This is fascinating stuff if you can handle the topic. |

Sure. He was bi-polar and severely depressed, on medication and actively seeing a doctor. He had a blowout with his dad the night before. When they woke up in the morning his dad was really concerned about him and wanted to spend the day with him. The kid told his dad that he just wanted to go to school and that he was fine. his dad finally let him have his way (thought he was heading off to school), but he then took a few buses to get to the bridge. Once on the bridge he stood there balling his eyes out for a while and then a german women came over and asked him to take her picture on the bridge. completely oblivious to his emotional state, he took the picture and told her to have a nice day. he then concluded that absolutely no one cared for him and he hopped over the railing. he jumped and immediately regretted it. he ended up shattering parts of his spine and broke an ankle I believe. He later learned that a seal kept him afloat or that a seal played a big role in keeping him alive. I read elsewhere last night that he now goes around the country speaking about his experiences. i got upset just typing that.
