Stick Shift

Hey guys can u help me on how to learn manual trans. Like how to launch and not to stall. And go into turn when to down shit and up shift. And on the red light should i go into nutral or hold the clutch ? Thanks fellas ( I mean on the street driving, not the road coars or track). Just regular street driving.

Start by doing this. Go in a parking lot and get the car going with out using the gas pedal. It can be done, this will teach you clutch modulation and help you learn the engaugement point.

Get your braking and down shifting done before you go into a turn. Always be in a gear when going around a corner, if the car is in neutral or the clutch is in going around a corner you have no control.

The redlight thing is personal choice. You save some wear on the throwout bering by putting it in neutral.

Thanks. So ur saying if im in 3rd gear and i have to turn i should slow down, then turn and then as im slower i should put my car in second or 1 gear so i can accelarate again right? Thanks man

good luck just try precticing invery quiet open spaces alot (with a friends who is accustomed) aside from the tips on here

no.

If you are in 3rd gear coming up to a 2nd gear corner. You wan to brake, downshift, then turn into the corner.

Dont ever take a corner in first, I'm also just learning but i learnt that the hard way hahah the gearbox uses it self as an engine break and jolts the whole car back and forth, it feels like you're getting whiplash!!

Wow ok guys ill try. No but i though it would be better if i brake turn and the down shit to the gear i need u know like from 40 mphs. i brake to 10 turn then i get in 1 gear and accelerat well now i have to do other way brake downshift then turn Thanks guy

you will never downshift into first unless you are completely stopped. 2nd gear will do.

You have it correct. Brake, downshift, turn. accelerate.

Thanks Sean. il give it a try. Now neeed a practice car Thanks guys. OH 1 more question if i have to stop sudden like if a guy is turning around and im going fast like 50 60. i Brake hard then when im about 5 mph i can put into 1 or 2 and start to accelarate right?

to sum it up on a few words... the formula is track out entry-apex at the middle of the corner- track out exit...
You head to the corner as far away from the sside the corner turns to... you brake before entering corner and shift to the desired gear... then turn in without braking... usually with throttle feathering to keep the car balanced then as you hit the apex (not the same for all cars) but apex is the center of the corner... you accelerate out away from the center of the corner... then you know what to do on the straightaways
