Sway bars

Am considering getting a sway bar (the sway barbarian to be exact)

Was wondering if ther was any down sides to it?

And also, should I lower the car first, or get a swaybar first?

And least but not last, those of you who have the Swaybarbarian (UUC SWAYBAR) please let me know how you like them... Thanks!

Get Eibach bars instead. They make a 3 series spec bar, instead of the one size fits all UUC bars. They have quieter rear link too.

Not that I would ever question what SG_M3 says... but, I'm happy with my UUC swaybarbarians... Tho, I've only installed the front one, since I have to live with SCCA stock class rules.

I have uuc sways too, for now.

I'm on my second pair of rear endlinks. And for a 3 series car the front bar isn't big enough. 3 series and m3's mount the swaybar differently. The 3 series needs a bigger bar because of its mounting point.

Interesting you say that, i'm only using the front bar too. I disconnected the rear bar.

Might I ask why you are only using the rear bar?

I only use the front bar.

I have 900 lb springs in the rear and with the rear bar on full soft it oversteers.

900 lbs!!! that's a lot...

Moderate or heavy oversteer... i just switched to 650lbs rear from the 500 that i had and it's driving me crazy... i know ur car has a better suspension but maybe you could get it a "bit" less tail happy with 700 or 750...

what do you think?

Mike

For me it's a choice I'm stuck with, not one I'm making on purpose. I can't get good rotation the way things are, but can't change spings or the rear bar with out bumping into BSP or STU...

It was the first time out on that setup, trial and error. I'm running slightly stiffer than most, 50 lbs more, nothing crazy.

I'll try the uuc bar disconnected, if that is too much, i'll put the stock bar back on.

I have 650lb springs in the rear with the stock bar, and the RD bar in front and my car is very neutral. Seems most E36 race cars don't run rear bars.

Welcome to the world of SCCA discrimination against BMW's in autocross. I would think you have to get a set of Motons/Pro-Tracs/Penskes to really dial in the handling.

Heh... Thanks.

I think you are right, but I'm not at the $10k for a set of shocks level just yet... Unfortunately, the active clubs in the area both adhear to SCCA classes, so well, it's just a deal with it or deal with it option.
