Racing Radios

So I'm looking for a radio set for BMW club racing. I found these but I don't really know much about radios in general. Anyone have any recommendations? Will these reach all the way around road america?

With all the people in here involved in BMW CCA and SCCA racing, surely someone that has a radio set can at least point me in the right direction.

Please?

nady and chatter boxes are for de style stuff, when both people are in the car. the set that your looking at is pretty good. I run gmrs radios that you can get at bestbuy with a motorcycle adapeter headset in the helmet. i got a ptt button with the headset as well. Only problem is that you have to be pretty much in the line of sight to recive a transmission the range aint the greatest. But all in all im into it for under 150 dollars. it works to hear my times and if the person on the other side can see they can relay me flags and other info. With a more high powered set up range will be much better and the headset for the person not driving helps alot. Its a big investment though watch ebay and racingjunk.com lots of circle track guys are always selling used ones for cheap

Andrew, I have the system you linked to. I got them direct from Shawn at Sampson. They have worked great for me so far. Check on ebay, Sampson usually has some deals on them. Definetly get at least the 5 watt radio's with detachable antenna's. I use a roof mount antenna instead of the one small one on the radio.

I use the Tekk system that is in the link. It's a 5 watt 16 channel vhf system, that works well for me at the club races.

I use the TEKK 5 watt 16 channel VHF radio system with an roof mounted antenna. It works really well for me and didn't cost crazy money, around $700.00 for the complete system.

Do you use an ear piece & mic in your helmet?

And just a normal handheld in the pits?

I have moulded earpieces and a mic in my helmet. My pit setup is The radio with a headset with mic and push to talk button. It comes as a complete kit with wiring harness and mounting system. I addded the external antenna for more range.

I ended up getting the tekk radios, the only place I have had them is at putnam park where the worked fine, no range problems. Voice quality is very good.

That's what I have and I used them at Putnam also for the June Club Race. They worked great for me as well.

You're thinking in car communication (driver-passenger) and I think he's talking pit-car communication.

I use a motorola talkabout, I tape the earpeice in my ear and my wife calls the plays. Basically, all i really care about is if there is a FCY, LY, RF or Debris flag. FCY most of all, so I can try the Gilbert manuever.
