Remember your first time at track?

Do you still remember your first time going to a track?
How did you feel and how did you get prepeared for it?

Im asking that cuz this will be my first year going to the tracks, I got a e36 m3 my mod is only Kw v3s and performance shock mounts, cuz i know the stock would break with v3s, I still didnt drive my car since I got the kws on them, cuz Im not insured till April. Im gonna order next week,STREET Ultralite Flywheel/Clutch Assembly, and thats about it for this year, my pads are good pretty much new.
I am not gonna try to push the limit with my car this year, I just wanna get the track feeling. Thats why I dont wanna replace to street/race tires or BigBreakKit, im only gonna put some Super blue Racing break fluid.

So if anyone have any advices for me please tell me. Or if im wrong with something i said, please correct me.
Cuz I dont have any experience with the tracks, and I would love to hear some advices from ppl with experience.

advice for you: quit wasting money throwing shit into your car...save the money for Drivers schools and track days ...getting KW v3s, clutch , flywheel etc...all useless , just take the car onto the track stock and learn, the car doesn't need mods it needs a driver who's willing to focus on becoming better rather than trying to make the car better

I echo Sunir's comments.

As for your first time. Just make sure the car is up on maintaince, you won't be pushing it your first time. Just go willing to learn, don't act like you know what you are doing, just have fun and learn.

You will soon be addicted.

I've seen between $150 and $400... $225-ish being normal, in this area... But; Depending on the track, you should be prepared to replace brake pads and fluid and maybe even rotors with some frequency... So keep those costs in mind too. Plus the normal safety equipment, tires blah blah.

I just picked up an e36 M3 and was curious as to what I need to be aware for specifics on this car. I mainly track my Evo , but want to do some BMWCCA stuff this year and want to know what I need to look out for with this car. Thanks for any help.

I'm sure someone like sunir can answer with a _lot_ more authority... But, the couple things I've picked up are the following:

Oil starvation on hard left hand turns - oil sump pickup isn't ideal on the non-LTW (non-GT for the euro market) M3's... You can replace with a dual pickup pump and different oil pan, but it gets a little pricey. Another alternative is an oil pan baffle kit from TMS... Most would probably tell you to run an extra qt. of oil in the motor for track days, if nothing else...

You are running a 95, so I'm sure you have the plastic water pump replaced with the metal water pump at this point.

And, last in my very short list... Be prepared to eat brakes.

HAVE FUN!

I'm still a serious novice, but my advice would be;
If you go with an open mind and forget about competing with anyone, you will have a blast.
Learn the line first and the speed will come; no need to push your car the first time out.
Don't follow the line of the car in front of you.

I would echo Dan-needabimma's comments...very good advice.

I just started last year. I would suggest two day events if there are any near you...the first two I did were two day and I really liked getting settled and learning the first day and then following up and sticking my line the next day and working on speed. I felt like I learned less at a one day event.

But as been posted, I just focused on the line and did what my instructor asked me to do with the car.

Its true that you dont NEED to modify the M, since it will be way beyond your ability, but it sure is fun to do!

...and be prepared to get addicted.

Yea, wait at least a year, or two, or three, or four. Few people can outdrive their M3. Stay on street tires too. Take it slow and get into good habits. As they say, mod the driver, not the car. And Dunesforyou, California probably has the most expensive schools compared to the rest of the country.
