If you have to carry people, don't use a rollbar. IMO fixed back seats are a must with a rollbar.

Hmmm...

What is the actual danger of a roof cave-in on an E36? From the handful of E36 rolls I have seen few of them had serious roof collapse damage, is it more for the *bling* than the safety?

Get the roll bar (with padding), buy some recaro SRD seats (that can recline), and a 4

point harness, then you will be seat!

You definitely don't want seats without a bar, and if you get a bar, you can't have rear passengers. You should run the stock set-up with a good set of 4 point belts. Schroth makes a 4 point belt that clips into the factory female receptacles, and works amazing. www.hmsmotorsport.com They have E36 rollbars, and the belts. Be safe,

i have a kirk. i would recomend them. bar fit well and is good quality

I do have a good roll bar available for the E36. It's a TC Kline roll bar. I swapped it out for an HMS roll bar becuse I can move the seat further back with the HMS model. BTW- I understand a good rollbar not only protects the car in a roll over which we all hope we never find out about, but it also stiffens the chassis quite a bit. That was another reason I wanted one in my car.
I do drive my car on the street a bit. Boyracers get excited when the see an M3 with a roll bar. A big draw back in my opinion.
