got sponsored by Dunlop so I will be trying their new Super Sport Race tires

I will let you guys know how it is and how it compares to the Falken tires I had on the car. I imagine it would compare to something like the Toyo RA1 and I am sure even better. I would be using these for DE's and for racing I will be using the Dunlop slicks.

Here is the press release on these tires.

Quote:
Dunlop Hits Streets with DOT-Legal Extreme Tire

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 3 – Racing into the market is the Dunlop SP Super Sport Race, an extreme high-performance, Z-rated sport radial that is designed for super car owners and autocross enthusiasts who want a non-competition, DOT-legal tire that provides the maximum in dry grip.

The SP Super Sport Race is a direct result of Dunlop’s experience and success in developing tires for both the track and the street. A combination of the Dunlop DTM Race Series tire and the consumer-oriented SP Sport 9000 have resulted in this new street-legal, high-performance tire with a high level of grip for extreme driving.

“This is a tire that combines incredible grip with awesome handling and styling, allowing performance-hungry drivers to utilize their vehicle’s full potential,” said Mike Pulte, Dunlop’s manager of extreme performance. “The SP Super Sport Race is targeted at expert drivers who understand the balance of tires and machine, and who can appreciate the difference an extreme sports tire can make.”

The new tire already is receiving rave reviews by early testers – select members of Porsche and BMW clubs across the U.S.

“On the track, the tires had tenacious grip, and gave gradual progressive warning as you approached the very high limits of their traction. These are excellent tires that inspire confidence and enhance performance,” said Chuck Peralta, a Porsche Club of America member, and recent class winner in autocrossing.

And proving their mettle in street driving, as well, Peralta noted, “On the street on the way to the track, the Dunlop Super Sport Race tires were quieter and rode more comfortably than the stock tires on my C4S.”

The SP Super Sport Race is available eight Z-rated sizes: 225/45ZR17; 245/40ZR17; 225/40ZR18; 235/40ZR18; 245/35ZR18; 255/35ZR18; 265/35ZR18 and 285/30ZR18.

The sizes fit cars such as Audi TT, A4 and A6; Porsche 996 and 986; BMW 3-Series, M3, Z3 and 5-Series; Honda S2000; Mercedes SLK, CLK, C-Class and E-Class; and VW Golf GTI.

The SP Super Sport Race will be available from select race tire distributors. Additional information can be found by visiting www.dunloptire.com.

Hey Dado, how did you go about getting a sponsorship...I would really love some free stuff in exchange for plastering a company's name on my car, but can't find how to go about it...do you contact them, or do they contact you?

EDIT: congrats on the sponsorship...let us know how those tires work for ya

It's about time somebody else came out with some 245 40 R17's!

Too bad they're so expensive. I'd expect them to be more like the Michelin PCS (or is it PSC?) tires than a Toyo for the price.

What tread depth do they start with?

You will need aslick for bmwcca to be competitive though.

Is this a full sponsorship, i.e. free tires on demand, or just a discount?

Gotcha, I read the thing backwards, haha. My bad.

Do they allow slicks in that other series you are looking to do?

yes slicks are allowed. It bumps you up a class but since I am already on unlimited I might as well.

Ok, what kind of sponsorship is it, discount or free?

Also, you do realize you will need considerably different setup for those dot-r's and slicks...so the setup is going to have to change everytime you switch tires. Might as well run slicks all the time.

they were free.

I am going to start with the sponsored tires to get some more seat time and later on I will put the slicks on.

Wait so you got one set for free, or a constant feed of them whenever you want?
