| need air pump What does everyone use at the track/auto-x/etc. to pump up tires? I think I want some sort of unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter as opposed to a separate air tank. Looking for small size and quick pumping. ![]()

| I use a air pump that I picked up at the local store. I pump up to about 38psi at the gas station (street tires), then adjust accordingly with the pump, in the pits. get a GOOD tire guage. then you can get any 12volt pump. don't trust the guages on the pump when pumping air. Cheers

| Those electric air pumps can take awhile to pump even a few pounds. I bought one for trucks that seems to work OK. Read the label. Some of them are not made to pump more than x minutes. Best bet is to buy a tank, fill it at the gas station. There is always someone around that has some air you can have. At the track there is usually air. If there is a long line I'll just overfill each tire then when I'm back in the paddock adjust accordingly.

| I have good tire gauges... one is in the car at all times since I don't believe ANY "built-in" gauges. I'd like to avoid a tank-type of air container simply because it's more unwieldy that I'd like to bother with. Even though the "electric" models may take longer to pump, time is not generally a major issue for me. I tend to get the pressures set on the high side the night before, so I can remove air at the track if need be. However, invariably I want to add another pound or two and can't do it! ![]() Anyone have a recommendation on Brand and/or source for a decent "electric" air pump?

| I bought a Battery jumper box from Costco for $60 bucks. It has a strong compressor in it and a light. It is pretty small compared to a tank plus you can be a hero if someone leaves their lights on.

| Thanks for the tips. I finally bought an "Air Tech Pro SRC-50" from my local AutoZone. It is rated at 300psi and is also a self-contained 12v power pack, so at the track you don't need to plug it into anything! Of course it can be used with either AC or DC sources, so it's versatile! Cost under $50 and looks solid enough to take track abuse for a long time! ![]()
