| Looking for some R compound Tires for this years auto-x and track events. I have a E36 325is. so 15" would fit. I'm guessing 225/50/15 would be best for my car? any other recommendations?

| I run that size. Are you going to use dedicated slicks or are you looking for "One Tire for everything" including street? Dedicated slick definatly a Kumho Victoracers, heat cycled and unshaved. They will last a while, the first few runs on them will be loose, but as they get older they will tighten up. If you get them shaved they will stick from the word go but you will get alot less autocross runs out of them. The track will also eat them up. Here is a link: 225 50 15 TIRES

I'd suggest you NOT run R-comps your first few sessions out on the track. I had one guy ride with me at VIR, complete novice, first track event ever, and he was already talking about getting R-comps. You learn a LOT more on your stock tires. Once you move into a set of R-comps, things will start happening a lot faster (and more violently), and if you don't have the EXPERIENCE to recognize these things as they happen, you will get yourself into a lot of trouble. Other than that, I have absolutely no input as to what R-comps you should run, sorry ![]() |

| thanks for the advice, I've been auto-x for 1 year now, I don't plan on 'giving it all i got' when I Track, and I'm taking a school in may. I'm looking for 15" x 7" rims so I can run 225's, however i think 6.5" will still fit 225's is it recommended? I dunno.

This is not about "giving it all you got" on the track. When you run Rs and don't "give it all you got," you will NEVER reach the limit, your car will NEVER slide, and you will NEVER learn a single thing. I hate when students develop this mindset that you need R-comps on the track. If you're not pushing it, then how are you going to learn? It's much easier to push it on street tires, things happen much slowly, and you actually start developing reflexes and experience. When you run street tires, the limits are MUCH lower, you will slide a LOT, and you will learn an INCREDIBLE amount. Anyhow, if you have your mind set on going Rs, then it's your decision, and you're just short selling your time on track. 225s should go on a minimum of a 7" rim. |

i'm no pro at auto-x either, but I want to be more competitave ( I know seat time be better driver first blah blah). I seem to be getting faster and faster each event, I came in 12th out of ~50 entrants. the 11 people before all had R's I was the fastest guy on streets, but I can't seem to catch up to them... my main focus is auto-x because track time is rare. thanks for your input. topic question: is it hard to find 16" R's? are they a lot more expensive then 15"? | Check out the tire rack and select your vehicle. There are some lightweight 15/16x7's that you may like, such as the ASA AR1, and the Borbet (I forget which one, but it tells you the weight of some), or if you have the money, go with SSR, 15 or 16. Their 15x7 wheel weighs a paltry 10.6 pounds.

| Too soon for track tires for you IMHO. Do a half dozen track events on street tires - they are more foorgiving and have less grip - it will force you to be a smooth driver. r_comps have more grip and can compensate for poor skills. Trust me, I went from novice to licensed Club Racer in a year and a half and I started on street tires... FYI you are asking about R-compound tires, not slicks. True slicks would rip the suspension out of your car. Kosei 15X8 wheels, light, direct fitment. For a street tire that will be a good starting point for what you want go with Falken Azenis Sport 205/50/15 Read books too, Ayrton Senna's Principles of Race Driving Skip Barber's Mastering the Art of Race Driving Paul Frere's Sports Car and Competition Driving have fun, be safe and make your own luck by being prepared in advance. | Thanks, because of the deal I found. I'm going with 16" Racing dynamic wheels with toyo proxes with ~ 50% tread life left for 500!! I'm sticking with streets this year. can't beat that price.
